Being a world-class gymnast is not easy. It takes decades of discipline, practice, and grit to make a gymnast worthy of winning the Olympic medal. The same was the case for Olympian Simone Biles. Born in 1997, this 25-year-old talented soul has already won 7 Olympic medals, 4 being Gold. She is dedicated and hardworking, ready to put everything on the line to win.?

But, in the light of recent trials against Larry Nassar, the US Gymnastic team has also opened up about the other types of tortures they had to face. In a heart-wrenching interview, Biles spoke about how she and the other athletes were pressurized into starvation to achieve the desired ‘gymnast’ body.?

Simone Biles speaks up about atrocities at Karolyi ranch

When Biles was a youngling, around 12 years old, she was sent to train at the Karolyi ranch in Texas. This establishment was run by Bela and Martha Karolyi. And, although she stayed there for a month only, it was a traumatic experience for this world-renowned gymnast. In an interview with CBS, Biles narrated the tale of how the trainees would be consistently underfed to achieve a certain physique.

The girls were shamed about their weight and built, and lied about the severity of any injuries they had. It was a very traumatizing experience that Biles could never share before the Karolyi ranch scandal came out. Biles searched that the food was softened rationed. She recounted how the trainers “routinely search their bags for food.”

Things got pretty bad for the girls. Biles reminisced how the girls would have to scourge for food behind the back of Karolyis.? Simone reminisced, “like, there would have been nights where we would, like break into the cafeteria and go get food.”?This left a brandishing impact on Simone who would later use her voice to speak up against any such atrocities.

Biles and her long saga of struggles

No matter how elite the athlete may be, they are never immune to trauma and hardships. This is especially true for Biles who was never handed anything over a silver platter. Biles had a rough childhood where she was abandoned by her biological parents before finally getting adopted. During this timespan, she’s had to go hungry often which instilled trauma in her from a young age.

She also had to fight her way through school due to bullying. She also battles with ADHD and things often get overwhelming for her. On top of this, she is also a victim of s*xual abuse by ex-coach Nassar. To deal with this sort of a magnanimous burden she even had to take a step back from competing in the 2020 Olympics.
