She has a reputation for combining different routines into one captivating performance. She doesn’t pursue these endeavors solely to compete for medals; instead, she enjoys pushing herself to the limit. Moreover, all those swings on the uneven bars make her feel that gymnastics has more to offer. No, she is not Simone Biles. She is Suni Lee, and she is proving that her kidney problems have not kept her from being herself. The Paris Olympics could be the best platform for her to shut down the naysayers, and for that task, the 21-year-old wants to use a remodeled weapon.
The weapon comes shaped as a renewed routine on the uneven bars that echoes her past performance. However, Suni Lee’s latest schedule ticks far more boxes at the difficulty level. On July 20, USA Gymnastics’ X-handle shared a 56-second clip of Suni Lee’s unique gymnastics routine on the uneven bars. Notably, she is currently training for the upcoming Paris Olympics along with the entire US gymnastics squad. The excerpt is believed to have come from that training session. The impressive piece is reminiscent of the one Suni Lee used to win the Tokyo Olympics’ all-around competition.
According to the X-handle Poor Lawyer, the arrangement is a mashup of multiple routines in which the components Jaeger, Pak, and VL remain the same. However, Suni raised the bar by including Nabieva, Bhardwaj, Maloney, and Gienger elements. By presenting such a challenging routine, the former Auburn gymnast has made it clear that her opponents will face a distinct challenge in the coming days. Although predictions were already there, seeing such a spectacle from her was impressive.

After clinching a fourth-place finish in the US Gymnastics Championships on June 3, Suni Lee attracted attention with an announcement. In her statement, she mentioned that she would mix the Nabieva element with the Bhardwaj in her next attempt on the uneven bars. Incidentally, the US Olympic gymnastics trials were next, but she abstained from revealing all her cards before the actual contest in Paris.

A battle between Titans? The Paris Olympics will witness something on that
It’s been a long time since the two Olympic all-around champions competed against each other on another Olympic occasion. That alone could be a topic in any brainstorming session. However, at the Paris Olympic Games, Simone Biles and Suni Lee will once again be fierce competitors. Since her comeback in the 2023 US Classic, Simone has proven herself to be an unstoppable force, while Suni has gradually returned to peak condition. Yet, she has shown she can overpower the most decorated gymnast.

On May 18, Simone Biles encountered no barriers in winning her Core Hydration Classic all-around title. This recognition came after she achieved the top score in the floor exercise routine. However, on the balance beam, the yet-to-fully-fit Suni Lee defeated her. She scored 0.050 points more than Simone, a feat to be cherished. This suggests she can achieve even better results. Suni could gain an additional advantage if she incorporates her trademark ‘Lee’ element into her recently demonstrated routine on uneven bars.
The current routine includes elements such as Nabieva, Pak, Bhardwaj, Maloney, and Gienger, earning it an FDEDD rating. However, adding the Lee element will elevate it to an H rating. Combining all these elements, the routine could present a significant challenge for both Simone Biles and Rebeca Andrade, the Tokyo Olympic all-around silver medalist. The task is difficult, but does Suni Lee shy away from challenges? What do you think?
