Simone Biles' Paris triumph: Is she the greatest gymnast of all time?

Simone Biles is one of the greatest ever to grace the sport of gymnastics. She has proved time and time again why she is considered the best in the sport. The Paris Olympics was just another example as she cruised on her way to four medals taking her total tally up to 11 making her the second most decorated female gymnast ever.

Throughout it all, Simone Biles has remained humble and down to earth. She continues to inspire future generations of athletes through various initiatives, such as the Gold Over America tour, which offers individuals aged 12-25 a unique opportunity to perform alongside gymnasts. Biles has also supported her fellow gymnasts during difficult times, including Jordan Chiles amid her bronze medal controversy. Recently, a French-Algerian gymnast shared how Biles was very supportive during the Paris Olympics, watching her training sessions and offering encouragement.

In an interview with a French website called JOW+, Kaylia Nemour talked about her encounter with Simone Biles. She wanted to take a picture with her after the competition. That’s when she went up and asked her for one. She said, “I had already had one at the World Championships, but I took another one with her. My coach told me, go ahead and take a picture.” Kaylia then talked about how her achievements and fame don’t match up to Simone’s. But still, the American gymnast treated her like her equal and provided her with support.

She said, “Simone Biles could not be interested in me, I was a little gymnast compared to her.” She added, “Frankly, she has been supporting me for a long time. I saw at the World she talks a lot to Marc, my coach.” She then said that both Simone and Jordan Chiles supported her during the Paris Olympics. They even motivated her while she was training. “They were there, go ahead, you can do it. While I was doing my bar movement, just at the training.” It showed how Simone Biles is extremely humble despite her achievements.

Have an interesting take?

Obviously, we can’t forget that Kaylia Nemour is downplaying her achievements. She already has a silver medal from the World Championships and two medals from the African Championships. Her biggest achievement, however, is becoming the first African gymnast to win an Olympic gold medal. She has accomplished all of this at just 17 years old. Thus, she is still a relatively young gymnast compared to Simone Biles. That being said, replicating Simone’s achievements will be challenging, as Biles is one of the greatest gymnasts of all time. But how long can she continue in this sport? At 27, Biles is nearing the end of her career. So, what does the future hold for her?

What’s next for Simone Biles?

Simone Biles is currently busy with the Gold Over America tour, which began on September 16th. This 30-city tour features gymnasts like Jordan Chiles, Hezly Rivera, and Jade Carey. This is the second edition of the tour, the first having taken place in 2021 after the Tokyo Olympics. Following this pattern, the next edition would likely be after the LA Olympics in 2028. This raises a significant question: Will Simone Biles participate in the next Olympics? In theory, she could, as some gymnasts continue to perform well into their 30s. However, at the Paris Olympics, she was already the oldest US gymnast to qualify for the competition. Considering she has accomplished much of what she set out to achieve in gymnastics, it remains to be seen whether she will compete in the LA Olympics.

Recently, the gymnast talked to NBC San Diego’s Steve Luke about her future. When she said that she hadn’t decided yet, the interviewer asked her about how much time will she take to do so. She said, “Everyone is different. We’re getting a little bit older. After Rio, I took about a year off. After Tokyo, there was more work to put in physically and mentally, so I took about almost two years off.” During her appearance on the Jimmy Fallon show, she talked about how her aging is now evident in the gym. “Outside of the gym, I’m young! But in the gym? I am old,” she said. Thus, while she has not fully decided on her future just yet, she has acknowledged that it might be tough to wait for another four years. Whatever happens, her achievements won’t ever be forgotten.
