Rebeca won the gold in the floor exercise at the 2024 Olympics a silver medal in vault and a Bronze in team. Rebeca also became Brazil’s greatest Olympic champion with these wins.
Despite injuries and several setbacks, she is also one who knows to give herself credit where and when it’s due. “I praise myself a lot. Even if I make a mistake, I keep encouraging myself. That’s really cool, because it was really hard to achieve. I used to put myself down a lot, I used to be very hard on myself when I made a mistake,” she admits. Nowadays, when he enters a competition, the only thing he yearns for is divine protection: “I ask God to protect me, and I’ll do the rest,” Rebeca shared.

At Paris, the podium Rebeca stood on with her Gold was an iconic one in itself. Rebecca shared the podium with the legendary Simone Biles who deserved a Silver and the beloved Jordan Chiles with Bronze. With three Black women on the podium, it was a historic moment. But to make it iconic, Biles and Chiles bowed to Rebeca as a sign of respect. Rebeca and Biles also share camaraderie, built over the years. The two have had their fair share of challenges, as evident in the Olympic endeavours.
Who can forget the heartbreaking moment at 2020 Tokyo when Simone Biles had to withdraw from the competition? Similarly, Rebeca faced a traumatic moment when she ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament. An injury that could have ended her career, Rebeca completely understands what Biles went through. She even went on to add, “I was happy that she respected herself and very sad that she had to withdraw from the competition, because it is very difficult for an athlete to give up an Olympics.”

Rebeca’s journey is however, defined by her resilience, not her struggles.At the same Olympics that Biles experienced twisties, Rebeca went on to win Gold in Vault and a Silver medal in All-Around. She also holds five Pan American titles won in 2021 Pan American Championships in Rio and 2023 Pan American Games in Chile. To top it all of off, she has three World Championship Golds and seven Junior Pan-American Golds to her name.
With Rebeca embracing her new found single-dom and renewed focus, it is safe to say, the world can expect to see great things from the Brazilian maestro.
