It’s celebrations galore in the Philippines camp as Edriel Carlos Yulo has come bearing a gold around his neck. August 3 flagged off the gymnastics apparatus finals in Bercy Arena, where Yulo channeled his full power mode in floor exercise to become the nation’s first gymnast to win Olympic gold. Surely, he will take some time to soak up the feeling. Especially, as his country has announced a stacked lineup of rewards for him. Ps: the list is notably pricey.
However, on the other hand, Paul Juda led American male gymnasts who shattered records like sandcastles this year and have no such expensive goodies coming their way. Of course, barring the common cash reward eligible for all American Paris medalists. While nothing will discount the endless love and respect they will receive from their nation, who doesn’t like an extra reward or two? But, wait. Let’s first see what Yulo is set to receive.

Abraham Tolentino, the Philippines Olympic Committee president made an announcement that possibly adds the cherry on top for Yulo. As declared, the nation will hereon award all the Filipino gold winners from Paris with rewards that include: 10 million phil pesos (roughly 100,000 USD), a house aka a fully-furnished condominium unit worth P24 million at the McKinley Hill township in Taguig City, and a gold valor to keep the medal. Well, under an identical tradition, the country had presented exclusive packages including houses to their Tokyo Olympic medalists.
“If I gave houses and lots to the medalists in the Tokyo Olympics, why can’t and won’t do it again for Paris,” President Tolentino appeared enthusiastic to welcome the honored with a smashing bonanza. He continued, “Our gold medalist, one or more, in Paris fully deserves this reward for their hard work, dedication, and love for sport and country.” Last year, the medalists, irrespective of the color of their hardware received houses in Tagaytay from the government.

On the contrary, despite remaining unqualified for the floor finals, the USA men’s gymnasts did clinch bronze in the Team event, after 15 years of no speck on this horizon. Plus, Fred Richard became the first black gymnast from the USA in 128 years to attain an Olympic medal. But, both Paul Juda and Richard were unable to make a podium finish in the all-around. And now, as their campaigns end, these championships do not have such affluent assets awaiting them. But, some multi-figured cash prizes are on their way.

If you are an American participant who has medaled at the Paris Olympics, the color of your hardware will decide the sum of your reward. As per USA Today, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee has divided prizes for the ones who return back home victorious from the mega Games. Notably, American gold medalists in the French capital are set to receive $37,500, while silver winners will get $22,500. Coming in third, bronze medalists will be rewarded with $15,000.
While this shall remain unchanged for American winners across sports, for track and field participants from the USA, World Athletics will further set aside $50,000 for the gold-winning track athletes. But beyond that, there have been no luxurious assets, like the ones that the Philippines has awarded. What do you think of this? Let us know below.
