“Going from just learning how to walk to where I am now, I mean I’m able to run, jump, you know, tumble now. It’s incredible to look back and see where I was and where I am now and the journey that I’ve gone through,”: Brody Malone had said referring to his injury in Germany last year. Despite that, the gymnast is seeking to achieve his first gold in Paris. But before that, the Summerville native has to prove himself in the US National Championships starting on May 30. On the way to that, Brody Malone was seen shedding sweat in the practice arena.

Curran Phillips recently posted Brody’s practice moves on the parallel bars in his IG story. The story holds a glimpse of the 24-year-old gymnast completing his routine with finesse. Upon seeing this, his national colleague gleefully wrote, “The world champ has returned[emoji]”. Eventually, Brody Malone himself displayed a reveled mood after completing the rotations without any fault. Previously in the Winter Cup, he let the gymnastics world witness his determination through his post-injury gymnastics moves.

In the Winter Cup this year, the American gymnast registered scores such as 13.950 on the pommel horse, 12.850 on still rings, and 14.850 on parallel bars. Riding on these, Brody Malone went up finishing the contest with third place, behind Yul Moldauer and Curran Philips. Eventually, the overall numbers brought him to the national team again for the US Gymnastics Championships. So now, he is looking to be pretty settled on his way back to the victorious path. But a few weeks ago, things were completely contrasting.

Just before the Winter Cup, he had to relearn walking and other things because of his treatment for the injury. Now, Malone is showing signs of making a fitting comeback. Notably, his Winter Cup maneuvering witnessed some additions despite his compromised fitness.

Brody Malone on a slow but steady path

The gruesome injury from last year left Brody Malone dependent on screws and iron rods. But his determination remained unbowed. So even after spending nine months in bed, he started this year with three events at the Houston National Invitational. The stunning improvement skyrocketed him along with Yul Moldauer and Curran Philips in the Winter Cup in February. But the quick success in those contests increased Brody’s hunger instead of taking a moment to boast about himself. The former world champion is vying for the Paris Olympic berth. So, he implemented changes keeping that in mind.

“The plan right now is to try and get back in the all-around,” he stated. So a slow but steady process would help him to reach the goal. So initially, some basic tumbling and vaulting topped his exercise chart. But with time, he incorporated further moves that were visible in the Winter Cup this year.

“The routine I did on rings at Winter Cup has a new skill in it that I’ve been working at that adds a tenth to my routine, my high bar routine I’m actually planning on doing is an upgraded routine compared to what I was doing before,” Brody Malone revealed. Presently, the Xfinity US Gymnastics Championships is Brody’s focus. And he believes that such preparation would pay him well in the Olympic endeavor.
