As per Inside The Games, Rifda recently stated, “There is a feeling of excitement. I hope that by qualifying for the Olympics, the world will get to know Indonesia better.” The young prodigy is definitely elated to represent her nation globally. However, despite her rigorous training in the capital city, Jakarta, she has voiced concerns about her physical health. “I am also feeling worried because of injuries, it made me have insomnia for the last five days,” added Rifda. But where did these injuries originate from?
In 2023, at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, Rifda sustained a knee injury from a sharp landing after the uneven bars, which led to her hospitalization in Belgium. “I kept asking my manager, my coach and my friends. I texted them one by one to ask: Did I qualify?“ she told Reuters. Even amidst the pain, Rifda’s Olympic qualification remained at the forefront of her mind. The next morning, the results confirmed that Rifda was officially Paris-bound!
Beyond her personal struggles and knee surgery, Rifda’s journey remains remarkable as she excels in a sport that is still developing in her country. According to Inside The Games, Indonesia has yet to establish a national training center for gymnastics. Nevertheless, no obstacle appears large enough to deter her resolve. “I continue to practice, and I prove that with limited facilities I can be a successful athlete,” added the upcoming Olympic debutant.
