Taylor Swift cheering for Simone Biles—Is this the ultimate show of girl power or just hype?

Simone Biles is a proud Swiftie, and their friendship and mutual respect go way back. Remember the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, when Taylor Swift made a heartfelt tribute to Simone for her resilience? Fast forward to the Paris Olympics 2024, and Simone brought Taylor along for the ride in the most epic way. Throughout 2024, Simone has been sprinkling a little Taylor magic into her routines.

The GOAT didn’t just bring back her signature move, the “Biles II”—a jaw-dropping triple-double with two flips and three twists first landed at the 2019 World Championships. She’s been rocking her floor routine to Taylor Swift’s song “…Ready For It?” And guess what? Taylor herself couldn’t get enough of it, saying, “Watched this so many times and still unready. She’s ready for it tho.” But just watching it on screen wasn’t enough!

Rumor has it that Taylor Swift might just be in the Bercy Arena for the Team Final tonight at the Paris Olympics! GymCastic posted on X, “Rumor: Taylor Swift will be in the arena for the Team Final tonight. #Paris2024 #ArtisticGymnastics.” Can you imagine the excitement? Sadly, not long after the buzz started, Nancy Armour from USA TODAY Sports reported that “Sadly, the rumor is not true.” But hey, the mutual admiration between Simone Biles and Taylor Swift is real and was undeniably evident when Swift herself had a glowing reaction!
Biles responded with pure joy, telling TODAY’s Hoda Kotb, “I do love her. She is so sweet.” But that’s not all! On Day 2 of the Paris Olympics during the qualifiers, the 27-year-old athlete executed a near-flawless routine on the uneven bars, despite suffering a minor calf injury during warmups. But what really caught everyone’s eye was after she completed her final event.

Simone waved to the crowds and embraced her teammates but she also made a familiar heart-hand gesture—a signature move for Swift and her loyal fans. But did you know that these sweet exchanges are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Simone Biles and Taylor Swift’s long-standing admiration for each other?

It all started in 2016 when Taylor Swift congratulated the “Final Five” gymnastics team, including Simone, on their Rio Olympics gold medal win via Twitter. Fast forward to 2017, and Simone took to Instagram to attend a T Swift concert with her brother Ron Biles II, and her sister Adria Biles. Then came 2021, a challenging year for Simone as she battled the “Twisties” at the Tokyo Olympics. But in a beautiful twist of fate, Taylor Swift narrated an NBC tribute to Simone while “This Is Me Trying” played in the background.

Swift said, “Her voice has been as significant as her talents, her honesty as beautiful as the perfection that had long been her signature. She’s perfectly human. And that’s what makes it so easy to call her a hero.” Biles, teary-eyed, retweeted, “I’m crying. How special. I love you, Taylor Swift.” Swift then responded, “I cried watching YOU. This week was a lesson in emotional intelligence and resilience. We all learned from you. Thank you.”

But wait, there’s more! Later in 2021, Simone had the honor of presenting Taylor with the Gracie Grand Award at the Alliance for Women in Media Awards. In her tribute video, Simone gushed, “I can’t tell you how much I love Taylor and her music. But Folklore is not the only incredible thing she did during this pandemic. She has shown immense grace and generosity to many of her fans in need, including me.”
