Gabby Douglas has bid adieu to her Olympics dreams. Aiming to make a return to the mainstream competition after eight years, Douglas was pretty hyped up about her chances. Unfortunately, as per the recent announcement, an unforeseen foot injury has stopped her progression further this year. Such a piece of news has certainly left the gymnastics fans saddened as they expected the return of the trio- Simone Biles, Suni Lee, & Gabby Douglas after their respective hiatus.
Confirming the news, Gabby Douglas posted a long statement on her official Instagram account. Douglas wrote, “Wow what a journey first off i just wanted to say that i am forever grateful for all of your support, grace, and love. it truly has touched my heart. i’m sad to say that due to a foot injury during practice i will not be able to continue my 2024 journey.” Douglas thanked all her fans for supporting her throughout her Olympic journey.

However, along with this announcement, Douglas also had some good news for her fans. Towards the end of her note, the 2012 all-around champion mentioned that she is not retiring from gymnastics and will continue to entertain her fans in the future. Meanwhile, Gabby Douglas’ bid to compete in the LA 2028 Olympics was not met with enthusiasm by the fans.
End of the gymnastics road for Gabby Douglas?
Coming out of her 8-year-long hiatus, Gabby Douglas was already fighting a tedious battle. However, despite not being able to make it to Paris, Douglas hinted about competing in Los Angeles in 2028. She said, “I love this sport and pushing my limits.” Sadly, such a statement did not have fans’ backing. In a Reddit post recently, r/Gymnastics speculated about the probable gymnast who might feature in LA. Alongside Suni Lee and Simone Biles, the name of Gabby Douglas was also included.
But the fans seemed to have moved on from her and showed interest in Konnor McClain, Nola Matthews, and Reese Esponada. Thus, after her consecutive withdrawal from the Core Hydration Classics and Xfinity US Gymnastics Championships, Gabby Douglas’ road ahead looks pretty bleak, unfortunately.
