The 2020 Tokyo Olympics all-around gold medalist Suni Lee is pitching up for another Olympic entry after this year. Two months into 2024, the gymnasts of measure are all pushing their limits to achieve the impossible. 2023 has been a prolific year for the US gymnasts on the grounds of their World Championships displays, especially. But it didn’t have Lee on the roster.

Resorting to her Instagram stories, Suni Lee has posted the most anticipated. A picture of her Winter Cup ID card, which has her name alongside the name of her holy gymnastic center, Midwest Gymnastics. Posing like a gleeful child, Lee didn’t let her fiery self come to the fore yet. Inarguably, she has kept the world waiting for the time she will grace one gymnastic routine after another. The comes amid an unfortunate development in the event. Gabby Douglas, the 2012 London Olympics all-around gold medalist, was supposed to be Suni’s adversary. But COVID-19 overshadowed her dreams. However, that does not make it any less exciting.
Lee hasn’t competed since the 2023 US Gymnastics Championships and is ready to set the gymnastic mat ablaze. The 28-year-old who has kept herself off the competition arena for 8 years is “still a competitor at heart”. But her comeback has again been postponed for testing positive for COVID. So, the 20-year-old young gun, the former NCAA reigning champ, has the stage to herself where her goal to compete is something else.

Lee’s real reason for competing
At 1 pm Eastern Time on Saturday, 24 February, fans will have their eyes glued to the powerful women making strides. Eyeing the Baku World Cup, where she will submit a skill to be named, the Winter Cup will work as a warm-up for her. Willing to ace the full-twisting layout Jaeger on the uneven bars, the Minnesota native will call it ‘The Lee’.

Suni Lee has had moments where she almost gave up. Towards the beginning of 2023, she used to wake up with swollen hands and feet, which took a more serious turn when she couldn’t place her grips on the gymnastic equipment anymore. But her recent talk with Olympics.com goes like this, “I’m in remission right now, so I’ve just been getting it under control and starting to work up into routines and getting ready for the season.” Hopefully, she will make waves this year as well, especially at the Olympics.
