The No. 3 LSU Tigers closed out the recent SEC Championship with a winning score of 198.075 at the Smoothie King Center on Saturday. Noted as one of the eight teams to achieve the highest scores in SEC championships, the LSU Tigers startled the audience with their amazing performances on the vault, beam, bars, and floor. With Olivia Dunne competing on the bars in her second appearance, she, along with her fellow gymnasts, led the team to grab the SEC title in March 2024.
Said to be the 5th SEC meet, the LSU Tigers showcased a dynamic range of performances on the vault and bars. Especially notable were Kiya Johnson, who scored over a 9.900 with her ‘Yurchenko double’, roaring a 9.925, and Haleigh Bryant, who excelled on both the bars and beam. Amidst many gallant performances during the SEC Championship, however, there was a jubilant celebration that Olivia Dunne shared on her social media with her sister.

Former LSU star gymnast, Olivia Dunne was also present celebrating the amazing win. Her sister, Julz Dunne posted a video on Snapchat with LSU students acknowledging women’s gymnastics, with the crowd joyfully cheering and celebrating their latest SEC win. While Olivia Dunne marked her presence in New Orleans with her gymnastics swings, she was seen competing in the third spot on bars, where she led the scoreboard with a terrific 9.800.
Accompanying her were Konnor McClain, Savannah Schoenherr, and Haleigh Bryant at the anchor spot, who scored 9.900, 9.850, and 9.925, respectively on the bars. The floor squad concluded the meet with a 49.675 total, the highest at SECs, with Haleigh Bryant being declared as the top all-around performer with an individual score of 39.800 on a Saturday night. Viewing this victory, even the team’s head coach could not hold his pride within.

SEC Champions leave a proud legacy
Jay Clark who coached the winning team added his thoughts on the triumph, “It means everything to be able to bring this home. This is a great group and I’m very proud of how they’ve gone about their business all year long.” “The SEC is a gauntlet, and to come in here and be able to do it at home in front of our fans was pretty special. LSU is a special place.”

Olivia Dunne, one of LSU’s standout collegiate gymnasts, has chosen to pursue her academic career and transition her brand into a fully-fledged business. A three-time SEC Academic Honoree and a 2022 American Scholastic All-America, Dunne expressed her sentiments about the current SEC season, stating, “This has been my favorite year at LSU so far. I mean every year has just gotten better. And the way this team gets along with one another is unlike any other team I’ve been on.”
