Olivia Dunne has become one of the most renowned names in sports. The LSU gymnast, along with being a student-athlete, is also a social media star with over 10 million followers online. Livvy, as her fans lovingly call her, is the highest-paid NCAA female athlete thanks to her massive NIL deals. The gymnast shared on the ?Full Send Podcast? that each sponsored post by her earns her over $500,000. In a recent noble gesture, Livvy, the NIL mogul, announced a massive new partnership with her very own “Livvy Fund” and Accelerator Active Energy, the brand with whom she has partnered since July.
The brand will now be the first to do NIL deals with student-athletes, and eight LSU gymnasts who are her teammates will become the brand’s newest ambassadors. In an interview with People, Dunne said she was fortunate enough to get opportunities through NIL deals, and she stated, ?So I just wanted to help other women and give them opportunities to learn and have more NIL deals because they deserve it just as much as I do.” And now, just hours after this endearing gesture, Dunne has clapped back at a major publication’s old dig at her.

In a recent TikTok video, Livvy posted a 2-slide picture that grabbed attention, set to the backing track ?Me and the Devil? by Hassan Khaffaf. In the first slide, Dunne was seen posing behind a balance beam in a black LSU leotard, and the caption in the video syncing with the backing track read, ?Me and the…” and the second slide was the same picture with an added twist.
The caption of the second slide read ?DEVIL? in red font, and above the same image of Dunne was a picture of a headline by ?The New York Times? that read, ?New Endorsements for College Athletes Resurface an Old Concern: S*x Sells?. Olivia Dunne also wrote in her caption, ?Get with the times,? and added a yawning emoji. This clapback at the publication came hours after the partnership between Accelerator Active Energy and Dunne?s “Livvy Fund” and is not the first time she has done so.
How the drama began and how she clapped back the first time
The article by The New York Times was published on November 8, 2022, and updated on November 11, 2022. The headline and article did not sit well with Dunne, and she called out the publication days later when she posted an Instagram story of a picture of herself and wrote, ?Is this too much?? tagging the publication. Livvy later stated on the NELK ?Full Send Podcast? how the publication had called her on the phone in November and said they were going to write about her accomplishments, and she was very excited. The picture used for the article was the same as the TikTok video above, which was of a leotard from her university, LSU.

She then further revealed, ?When the article came out, it was a giant picture of me just standing there in a leotard, and the headline was ?S*x Sells.? So I was like, ?So, you?re going to come into the gym. You?re going to ask me to pose in our team-issued attire and then put a headline, “S*x Sells.”?However, in a turn of events, Livvy revealed that this clapback caught the eye of Sports Illustrated, which offered her the partnership of their swimsuit issue shoot.
