Simone Biles is the undisputed GOAT of gymnastics. Biles has consistently wowed the world with her relentless determination and unmatched dominance. With four elements in women’s artistic gymnastics already bearing her name, Biles is now chasing after a fifth. And it’s the Yurchenko Double Pike Vault that has everyone talking. Historically, this move was reserved for male gymnasts, but thanks to the incredible Biles, it’s become a sensation in the women’s category in a competitive arena, making her the first woman to do so.

While few men have attempted this challenging vault, it was Biles who elevated it to new heights in the sport. Astonishingly, this athlete was not Biles!

In a recent Instagram story shared by Heath Thorpe, an Australian artistic gymnast, a mesmerizing video captured the attention of gymnastics enthusiasts worldwide. The video featured an athlete executing the Yurchenko Double Pike with such grace and precision that it left spectators in awe. Thorpe, clearly impressed by the performance, wrote alongside the video, “Needed to highlight Mahdi Olfati’s Yurchenko Double Pike from the Asian Games. The best YDP in MAG history IMO.” This remarkable performance showcased the talent of Iranian gymnast Mahdi Olfati, who made history recently at the 19th edition of the Asian Games held in China.

Olfati secured Iran’s first-ever medal in the history of gymnastics at this prestigious continental multi-sport event. With a score of 14.783 points, Mahdi Olfati secured the second position in the men’s vault competition. The gold medal in this event was claimed by Japan’s Wataru Tanigawa, who scored an impressive 15.016 points. Malaysian artistic gymnast Aimy Muhammad Sharul, with a score of 14.466 points, earned the bronze medal. This video also went viral just a day before the World Championships where Biles is poised to slay once more.

Interestingly, this awe-inspiring video of Mahdi Olfati’s performance surfaced just hours before the anticipated 2023 World Gymnastics Championships. This would be her fifth element added to the Code of Points and her second in the vault.

Biles now in Antwerp, Belgium aims to perform the Yurchenko Double Pike Vault on the global stage. If she succeeds at nailing the YDP on the vault without stumbling it will be named after her as “Biles II” in the F?d?ration Internationale de Gymnastique?s (FIG) Code of Points, adding another element to her legacy.
