Jordan Chiles went from the Tokyo Olympics to competing at UCLA and back to professional gymnastics. If these transitions weren’t difficult enough, she was dealt a tough hand with multiple injuries at the time. But that wasn’t all that she had to endure. On July 1, Gymnasts Now dropped a bombshell,
“Jordan Chiles revealed this afternoon that, in addition to the AC joint sprain in her shoulder before the Winter Cup, she also suffered a partially torn LCL and fractured fibula in March doing a double Arabian.” News like this travels fast, and speculations, more so. Jordan’s mother, Gina, decided to set the record straight and took to X to clarify the speculations.
“Whoops. Looks like I could have eased your minds if I had jumped on here sooner. Here’s clarity.

“Jordan suffered a partially torn LCL and fracture in early spring. At first, it was thought to be a hyperextension. Needed off and rest for proper healing. She did.”
Gina elaborated that Jordan’s coaches were very careful with her, prioritizing long-term health over immediate competition goals. Jordan withdrew and rested during the Winter Cup in February 2024, with a consensus among her coaches, USAG doctors, her home doctor, and physical therapists that she needed time to heal.
By the time they conducted a follow-up MRI, Jordan was already several weeks into her recovery, which was confirmed by an outside specialist. Once she felt good enough to run, tumble, and vault again, Jordan Chiles resumed training, fully healed. In another tweet, Gina emphasized, “She won’t go until she knows she is good, and they won’t make her. It is fully healed; it was always non-surgical.”
Additionally, the mother also shared that Jordan was just excited about the Olympics. “I mean, I’m sure Jordan may have not expounded and just dropped a bomb with not a ton of context. I think she was excited to share what she overcame to get to Oly. I can totally see her say, ‘Yeah, I was broken, and now I’m a 2X Olympian’ lol.”

One of her serious injuries occurred in late 2019. As a result, she underwent wrist surgery to repair torn cartilage in August 2019. With the Tokyo Olympics slated to take place in 2020, this could have meant she would have to sit out and wait for the next Olympics. However, the Tokyo Games got delayed to 2021, and the gymnast had enough time to heal.
This also gave her time to deal with her dislocated toe in 2019. Chiles helped the US bag home a silver medal in the team competition. However, her woes of injuries don’t stop here.
2024 started with more injuries: knee and shoulder issues. With that, she had to pull out of the 2024 Winter Cup. “I am frustrated I can’t perform for you all, but this is also part of our sport and things like this only fuel me for what’s coming,” she wrote back then.
