“Was Fighting It”: Despite Jonathan Owens’ Scare, Simone Biles Efforts Led to Their Relationship

It has been about three years since Jonathan Owens and Simone Biles set on a path toward their gleaming relationship. Their fans might have always wondered who made the first move and showed interest that eventually led them to the wedding aisle earlier this year. Well, it turns out it wasn’t the Green Bay Packers star but the two-time Olympian, Biles. How? Well, she just knew what she wanted.

Back in 2020, Simone and Owens met each other through a dating app. While Biles was prepping for the Olympics, Owens was playing for the Houston Texans. The duo recently reminisced about the time and how a bold Simone Biles laid the foundations of their relationship.

Simone Biles flips the script

Jonathan Owens was recently invited for a chat about his life at The Pivot Podcast. From senior year to going pro, the NFL star talked about it all. But mid-way, Owens was asked about one of the most significant parts of his life: his relationship with Biles. One of the hosts asked how had Owens ever managed to pull Simone Biles.

To which the Packers’ safety initially replied, “It’s really about how she pulled me,” before going on to explain further. “I had been on the app for a couple of days, and it’s like she pops up. And I’m like let me see who this is, gymnastics. I ain’t never paid attention to gymnastics so it piqued my curiosity.” And when Owens took a break from the app for a couple of minutes, he came back to Instagram likes and a message.

“We matched, I was just the first to message. As soon as I clicked, Ooo I like him. I wasn’t scared. I know what I like and I know what I want,” Biles, sitting behind the camera provided her side. Without the gymnast’s move, the two’s story would have witnessed a different result. So when one of the hosts remarked that Biles was good at ‘flipping the script,’ Owens agreed without a blink. “I was fighting it… If she wouldn’t have texted me, chances are like probably I wouldn’t have. My mind would have went somewhere else,” Owens remarked. But not only Simone Biles, her sister also had a role in bringing them close.

When Adria Biles played the perfect Wing woman

Simone Biles’ first text brought a continued momentum between the two. According to Owens, the two texted back and forth that day, and a couple of days later, they were hanging out together until Adria Biles stepped in and pulled the ultimate wing woman move. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Simone Biles revealed that her sister grabbed her phone and asked Owens to join a trip to a lake house.

He brought his English bulldog Zeus, and Biles brought her French bulldog Lilo. Soon enough Owens was asked to join the Biles family’s Sunday dinners, which only brought them closer. The COVID situation and Jonathan Houston Texans’ contract further kept them together.

Five months later, they made their first social media appearance together. Fast forward 3 years, and the two walked down the beautiful seafront aisle in Cabo to exchange wedding vows.
