Bears legends slam Biles for Packers jacket—are they right or just being petty?

When you’re at the top of the food chain, you attract a lot of attention to yourself. Similarly, 7x Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles is never too far away from controversies, as fans seem to follow the gymnast’s steps with a keen eye. When Biles went to watch her husband Jonathan Owens’ Chicago Bears match against the Cincinnati Bengals last month, fans were flummoxed to see her show up in Green Bay Packers attire instead. Naturally, they weren’t pleased by the sight. But some Chicago Bears veterans believe that the Bears followers should also cut Biles some slack.

In a post on X by the CHGO Bears on September 11, former Bears players were heard talking about how elated they were to see Jonathan Owens score the first touchdown of the season against the Giants last weekend. When Alex Brown, one of the hosts, joked about how he was stunned to see the safety player being addressed as Mr. Simone Biles during the broadcast of the match, Lance Briggs lashed out, saying that Owens needs to tell his wife not to wear Packers gear at his matches anymore. However, not everyone was on board with that.

We gotta give her a pass on that first one, cause she’s Simone Biles,” opined Brown, irrespective of what Briggs had to say. Subsequently, one of the others noted how he reached out to the gymnast’s husband about the issue and how Owens claimed that he needed to make Simone aware of the fact that the NFL teams are defended by armies of dedicated fans who aren’t up for letting any slip-up go unnoticed. “I gotta tell her, I gotta do better,” the host claimed he was told by Owens.

They put his name. They did that, they put it up there, and I was like, okay,” Brown could hardly stop talking about how stunned he was seeing how Owens was being addressed by the NFL. But most of the hosts seemed to agree that, despite the controversies that arose at the Bears vs. Giants game surrounding the Olympic gymnast’s jacket, it shouldn’t be given as much importance as the fans are making it to be.

She the GOAT. So she gets a pass. A little pass” was the final conclusion of their discussion. However, while the NFL fraternity still analyzes Biles’ choice of clothing from the Bears-Bengals game, it certainly won’t stop the country’s most decorated gymnast of all time from showing up to stand in her husband’s corner when he needs the support.

Ever since Biles and Owens started dating, they have always ensured to support each other’s professional endeavors as best as they can. Even if the couple had to spend months away from each other to keep up with the demands of their respective careers, both the gymnast and the football star have remained unwavering in their backing to ensure the other is at the top of their mental game.

And in between all the hectic schedules, they have still wriggled out time to spend in each other’s company, even if that entailed flying thousands of miles just for a dinner date over a couple of hours. On the other hand, adverse weather hasn’t been able to stop the former Green Bay star from making it to the stands to watch his wife in all her glory at the 2024 Xfinity US Gymnastics Championships.

However, the backlash from Bears fans seems to have reached Biles’ ears as well, and she has been stocking up on merch from her husband’s new camp. On September 5, Biles revealed that Chicago fans need not worry anymore because she now has plenty of clothing to choose from while attending Owens’ next matches. Will that change the tide for the country’s most celebrated gymnast of the moment? What do you reckon? Share your thoughts below!
