Just four days until the Olympics-time is flying! But before the Paris Games get underway, June 22nd is turning out to be a red-letter day for Simone Biles! The reason we’re celebrating today is not only because it is Jonathan Owen’s birthday, but it’s a day filled with good fortune. Well, Biles has received official news that the Chicago Bears are giving her NFL safety husband, Owens, the green light to miss seven training camp practices. Reason?
So he can jet off to Paris and cheer her on such a grand stage for the first time. What a golden opportunity for them both! Jonathan Owens is allowed to take a breather from practice between July 29 and August 3. However, he will probably be returning on August 4. Well, the women’s gymnastics qualifying round starts on July 28. And Biles will be gunning for gold in all four events.
Chicago Bears head coach since 2022 Matt Eberflus couldn’t be more thrilled, saying, “We respect the Olympics…..That is a big deal. And he’s just supporting the one he loves the most. And I think that’s so cool that he gets to do that. We welcome that and it’s going to be awesome. Go USA.”

With that said, it’s now confirmed that Owens will be there to support Biles in Paris. However, he wasn’t in the picture at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics when she needed him the most. During that crucial time, when Biles was grappling with “twisties” and withdrew from two medal events, citing mental health concerns. Even though their relationship began in early 2020, what was the reason that Owens wasn’t there?
Well, Tokyo 2020 was postponed to 2021 because of the pandemic, and with the strict COVID regulations in place, family and friends were kept at arm’s length. Consequently, Owens had to watch from afar. Then Simone Biles took an almost 2-year break and returned as if she was never gone in 2023! But Owens was once again a no-show. Why wasn’t he there to back her up when she returned to the limelight?

Despite Owens missing Simone Biles’ comeback, she stood supportive through his NFL season
Simone Biles stunningly returned at the 2023 World Championships, her first major event since Tokyo, from September 30 to October 8. On October 6, she grabbed gold in the women’s all-around final with a show-stopping score of 58.399, marking her sixth global title at that time and her first since 2019. While Biles was on top of the world, Owens was stuck in the thick of the NFL season with the Green Bay Packers, making his attendance a no-go.
Despite this, Biles went above and beyond to support Owens throughout the NFL season. She attended almost every NFL game. She also supported him on social media, praising him by saying “Love supporting you & your dreams,” and receiving his heartfelt reply, “Love having you there every step of the way.”

To top it off, she also donned a black leather jacket with “Green Bay” across it, showing she was truly rooting for him from afar.
Since then, Owens has been a steadfast supporter at every milestone. He cheered for Simone Biles at the U.S. Classic, where she took home the gold, followed her through the Xfinity Championship, the Trials, and now to the Paris Olympics. Even a year after marriage, their love remains as fresh as a daisy. It will be intriguing to see Owens on the sidelines in Paris, perhaps keeping a watchful eye and jotting down scores just as he did at the U.S. Classics.
