Simone Biles shutting down trolls—Is she the ultimate role model for handling online hate?

Simone Biles isn’t one to stay quiet when her husband, NFL player Jonathan Owens, faces criticism. After famously telling critics to “Respectfully, f-ck off,” she might just have to repeat herself. Simone, known as the world’s most successful gymnast, and Jonathan, who’s now with the Chicago Bears, make sure to savor their time together despite their busy schedules.

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens are about to face a brief separation, but it’s all part of their busy lives. On Sunday, September 1, Biles took to Instagram to send a sweet farewell message to her husband ahead of their temporary time apart, writing, “See you in a few weeks 🤍🤧.” While the reason for their separation isn’t clear, it likely ties into their demanding schedules.

With Jonathan Owens gearing up for the new NFL season, starting with the Chicago Bears game against the Tennessee Titans on September 9, and Simone Biles preparing for her Gold Over America Tour beginning September 16, the two have a lot on their plates. The tour will cover 30 cities between September and November, so Simone’s schedule will be jam-packed.

Despite the challenges, including their hectic routines and the inevitable time apart, Simone has consistently shown that she handles everything with grace, even when faced with backlash.

On Threads, a prime example of this was a post she shared on Saturday, September 1, where the 27-year-old got refreshingly candid while leaving her fans hanging. “I got a couple hot takes but I don’t think y’all will like them lmaooo 👀” she teased. Biles, an 11-time Olympic medalist with four medals from the recent Paris Olympics, kept her followers on edge without divulging any of these “hot takes,” showing she knows just how to stir the pot while keeping things playful. And given the intense backlash she’s faced over the past year, she’s certainly mastered the art of keeping things balanced.

Simone Biles stands by her man in the face of criticism

Last month, Simone Biles was thrust into the spotlight once again. This time due to comments targeting her husband, Jonathan Owens. The gymnast, who has previously faced criticism ranging from Tokyo’s team performance to her Paris Olympics hairstyle, stepped up to defend Owens after a social media post featuring him wearing the gold medal she won in the Paris Olympics drew unwarranted hate.

Many fans questioned, with some commenting, “Why he holding it like he won it,” . Another user remarked, “Mr. I’m the prize wants to wear her prize… I’m not surprised,” reflecting the backlash stemming from Owens’s earlier remarks.

Biles didn’t hold back, responding to critics on TikTok: “Crazy thing is, I put my medal on every single one of my family members and took pictures. So don’t ever make assumptions.” She added, “Like y’all are so f–ing miserable. Leave us alone.” Her comments clarified that she regularly shares her medals with family and expressed frustration at the negativity, urging the online critics to back off.

Bizarrely, even last year was full of drama for Jonathan Owens. During an appearance on “The Pivot” podcast, Owens admitted he didn’t initially recognize Simone Biles when they matched on the dating app Raya and implied he was the “catch” in their relationship. This comment sparked a firestorm of criticism online, with some even advising Biles to “divorce him.

However, on July 8 of this year, Owens addressed the backlash, stating, “Our biggest thing is, we know that those people don’t know us at all. I can’t let someone else’s opinion dictate how I feel about myself or our relationship.”

Despite the drama, Owens remains steadfast in his support for Biles, whose Instagram Stories echoed his sentiment. Biles clarified, “I’m going to quickly address this, the joke was never a joke! Y’all are blatantly being disrespectful to my relationship & my husband. So I’m gonna go ahead and say this one time. Respectfully, fuck off & if you keep commenting or tweeting at me I’m just going to block you. Simple as that.” Owens, a safety for the Bears, reshared Biles’s story, adding, “Being fake mad about people y’all don’t know from a can of paint is weirdo behavior.”
