Will the Netflix series on Simone Biles strengthen her marriage with Jonathan Owens? What do you think?

Simone Biles had a rollercoaster of emotions early in 2024 when her husband, Jonathan Owens, found himself in the hot seat after some eyebrow-raising comments on The Pivot podcast. At first, she found the backlash hilarious—“Divorce him! Divorce him!”—but soon enough, those remarks started to sting. It got to a point where Biles had to drop the mic with a “Respectfully, f*** off,” serving haters a dose of reality. But hey, that was then, and now?

Things are looking up! The new NFL safety for the Chicago Bears, Jonathan Owens, has won back some fans with his solid support for Simone Biles as she gears up to add more gold medals to her collection at the Paris Olympics. His presence on their Netflix docuseries, Simone Biles Rising, has also been making hearts melt. The show gives a sneak peek into their lives, showcasing their day-to-day married lives and giving Jonathan a chance to open up about Biles’ journey since the Tokyo Olympics.

Owens told NBC Sports Chicago, “I really love that you get to go into her life and how she thinks, and you know, the daily life of how everything goes on.” He continued, sharing that this helps fans look beyond their screens and that “people can’t just make assumptions about how you are or how someone acts. You actually get insight on what you think or how I experience things or how I react to things.” Just in case you need a refresher, during an interview on The Pivot podcast, Jonathan Owens jokingly called himself “the catch” in his relationship with Simone Biles. He even claimed he had no idea who she was when they first matched on the dating app, Raya.

Fans weren’t too happy about those comments and jumped to Biles’ defense. But Jonathan Owens has really shut down the haters this year, turning into Simone’s biggest fan at all her competitions. He even learned the ropes of gymnastics, taking down scores with pen and paper like a pro! Now, he’s taking five days off from NFL training camp—during one of the busiest times of the season—to be in Paris cheering for Simone at the Olympics. This plan was actually in the works since he signed with the Bears, with Owens and his agent discussing it upfront.

They asked the team if he could go, and the Bears were all in, showing incredible support. Coach Matt Eberflus even shared, “Just because we respect the Olympics, that is a big deal. And he’s just supporting the one he loves the most. And I think that’s so cool that he gets to do that. We welcome that and it’s gonna be awesome. Go USA.” But did you know his journey from clueless to star-struck, and then to being her rock when she withdrew from Tokyo, was all captured on the Netflix show?

In the first two episodes, Jonathan Owens is seen stepping up big time for Simone, who was his then-girlfriend, after she pulled out of the Tokyo Olympics. Biles praised him for playing a massive role in her comeback journey to gymnastics. She said, “Post-Tokyo, Jonathan was just like… ‘You’ll get back to where you were,’ and made sure I was staying on top of my training. He was making sure I was going to my therapy sessions and was trying to do as much as he could, without kind of being bossy, but he was really just like a shoulder to lean on because he saw those dark times after Tokyo.”

This not only helped her seek therapy but even nudged Jonathan Owens to get help navigating the mental hurdles of being an NFL player. From building their home together to Simone cheering Owens on at the Green Bay Packers game last year, their relationship is as wholesome as it gets. It’s not just about the social media posts; they’re genuinely living those moments. Now, with Jonathan heading to Paris to support Biles at her third Olympics, it’s so heartwarming to see their journey come full circle. And as Biles hinted, fingers crossed for Season 2 to capture this full-circle moment! What do you think about the documentary and how it shows the couple’s real side?
