Is Simone Biles right to avoid NFL talk despite her husband's sacrifices for her gymnastics career?

Last year, it wasn’t just Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift lighting up NFL stadiums—Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens were stealing hearts at Green Bay Packers games. Mrs. Owens, aka Simone, rocked themed outfits for every game, and with her support, she quickly became a fan favorite among the cheeseheads. Fast forward to this year, and Jonathan’s been returning the favor in a big way, showing up at all of Simone’s gymnastics meets leading up to the Paris Olympics. He was even there for the main event in the City of Lights.

After Simone wrapped up her redemption tour at the Paris Olympics with a jaw-dropping haul of three gold medals and a silver in floor exercise—making her an 11-time Olympic medalist—she sat down for an interview with NBC’s Mike Tirico, the Eiffel Tower gleaming in the background. She tackled some blazing questions with her signature grace but cleverly dodged NFL talk, despite Jonathan’s numerous sacrifices for her gymnastics career!

Simone Biles was asked if the Chicago Bears can hang with the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions in the NFC North this year. Why the football talk with Simone? Well, her husband, Jonathan Owens, has quite the NFL journey. After starting with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in 2018, he played for the Houston Texans before joining the NFC North’s Green Bay Packers, and now he’s signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears. Simone, not exactly a football aficionado but undoubtedly her husband’s biggest cheerleader, had the perfect response: “I’m not too good at football so whatever team my husband is on, they’re going to do well. I’m rooting for my husband.”

Simone Biles has made countless friends among the Green Bay Packers players and their wives. She even shared last year, “just wanted to say thank you packer nation for embracing my husband & I 💚 green bay will always hold a special place in our hearts!” Now, as she gears up for a new season with her husband’s new team, the Chicago Bears, it might be tough to pick sides and compare experiences.

However, she’s already off to a great start. Coach Matt Eberflus is fully behind Jonathan Owens’s Olympic support mission, saying, “Just because we respect the Olympics. That is a big deal. And he’s just supporting the one he loves the most. And I think that’s so cool that he gets to do that. We welcome that and it’s gonna be awesome. Go USA.”

Jonathan made the most of this opportunity and flew across the continent, over 6,000 miles, to cheer on his history-making wife, Simone Biles, thanks to special permission from his team. He was in the stands at the Bercy Arena, proudly sporting a shirt with Simone’s picture, and cheering her on during the Team Finals and All-Around Finals. Jonathan also caught everyone’s eye with his pen and paper, scribbling down Simone’s scores at each event. This note-taking habit is something he picked up from Simone’s parents, Nellie and Ronald Biles. Talk about a supportive husband! So, what did this grand gesture mean to Simone?
