Jonathan Owens witnessed the fierce competition firsthand and couldn’t help but marvel at the electric atmosphere. He shared, “We get to the competition. You know there are countries there. I have Brazil sitting in front of me. So they talking in their language and there was a girl who was from Brazil. That’s like her number one competitor, so I got the US flag behind them. I’m right there and they like ‘Brazil!’ No ‘USA’. We had somebody from Italy right next to us.”

Owens was in awe of his wife’s performances, and the moment was even more special given that he had secured special permission from the Chicago Bears to be in Paris during their training camp. He said, “The competition was universal, so everybody understands the stakes are high and crazy. Most of the people are there to see my wife.” His heartfelt support and keen observations won over many of Simone Biles’ fans, helping him smooth over past tensions. But, just when things seemed to be on the up and up, Owens now faces another controversy. Apparently, he hasn’t kept a promise he made to Simone Biles during an NFL game!
