

While Simone Biles is in Antwerp, Belgium, making history at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, Jonathan Owens is more than 5,000 miles away in America, aiming to secure the Vince Lombardi trophy for his team, the Green Bay Packers. Their dedication to their work often causes them to be apart. But that only means they find innovative ways to support each other.
Owens found a new way of boosting Biles’ confidence; especially when she is nervous. What could it be?

Jonathan Owens offers support to Simone Biles struggling with anxiousness
Biles recently took to TikTok, sharing a “Get Ready With Me” video before her podium training at the Championships. The video, titled “A Whole Bunch of Word Vomit bc Nerves,” provided a glimpse into her behind-the-scenes experience in Antwerp. Amidst the nerves, one moment stood out as she candidly admitted, “I was so nervous last night. And so anxious. And I don’t know why. And I guess it’s normal. It means you’re prepared. Like I texted my husband, I was like, ‘Babe, I am feeling so anxious right now.'”
Jonathan Owens, though physically distant from Biles, continued to support her during the Team Finals. He shared a series of videos featuring Biles on various apparatuses, expressing his admiration. In one story, as Biles displayed her skills atop the Balance Beam, Owens wrote, “Locked in” with clapping emojis.
In the following slide, capturing Biles’ flawless floor exercise routine, he exclaimed, “Let’s goooo” alongside gold medal emojis.

Lastly, he posted a video of Biles during an interview and conveyed his pride with the message, “So proud of you,” accompanied by fire emojis. Despite the physical distance that separated them, Jonathan Owens continued to cheer for her.
Owens backs Biles as she creates history
Throughout the year, as Biles performed at various competitions, Owens may have been physically absent, but his admiration for his wife knew no bounds. He cheered her on from afar, publicly expressing that there was “no one better” than his beloved wife. Simone Biles, too, has said she has been “so proud” of Owens’ journey.

Before Biles could make her global comeback, she even shared a lovely few weeks with her husband and wrote, “See you in six weeks, babe,” as she left to make history. As the World Championships are progressing, Biles has shown utmost dominance on the gymnastics podium.

She became the first female gymnast to successfully perform a Yurchenko double pike vault. The move will now be named after her, Biles II, in the gymnastics rule book.

Simone Biles played a major role in Team USA winning their 7th World Championship team title. Despite being miles away, Owens can take some credit for being the strength and pillar of support behind the legend Biles and for calming her nerves as she takes on the world.
