Being a national sensation comes with its own set of problems. So much so that even Simone Biles cannot escape its glaring gaze. While the gymnast was thinking she’d be showered with unfathomable love and support in her country after the stellar show she put up at the 2024 Paris Games, she was given a stern reality check by NFL fans recently. But she’s also stopped taking sneers without a jab of her own!

Biles was spotted in the stands watching and cheering for her husband, Jonathan Owens, as the Chicago Bears took on the Cincinnati Bengals on August 17. However, she was sporting a Green Bay Packers jacket on the occasion, the team that Owens left to come to Chicago, and football fans were livid. But the country’s most decorated gymnast of all time has her piece to say.

In a post on Instagram Threads on August 19, Biles underscored her frustration over the fact that fans keep coming at her even for the tiniest of mistakes. “it’s okay to let up off my neck every once in a while,” grumbled the 27-year-old Houston native, who seems to think people need to cut her some slack and not put Biles up on the stands every time she fumbles a little. Despite her plea, it seems the passionate fans are still not ready to give the Olympic star a break. What’s driving this relentless scrutiny?

Yesterday, when Simone was seen at the Soldier Field stadium, fans were quick to spot her wardrobe slip-up. Simone loves to flaunt her support for Jonathan in the most extravagant ways possible. When he was still playing for the Packers, Biles would often show up in the stands, sporting custom bedazzled “34” (Owen’s jersey number for the Green Bay team) pendants along with more jewelry carrying the NFL star’s surname. She’s yet to come up with something similar for Owens after his arrival to the Chicago squad, but the fans weren’t okay with how Biles resorted back to the Green Bay at the Bears’ match from last weekend wearing a Packers’ themed jacket.

The gymnast was also a massive fan of the Packers’ hospitality and she took to social media to assert her awe at the way she was received by the team’s fans during games. However, it looks like the Chicago fans aren’t keen on giving her a hall pass over the apparel she picked last Saturday. Before long, football loyalists jumped in to smirk at Biles’ choice of outfit for the Bears match. While Biles and her friend were seen having a blast at the game, jeers from the fans kept coming.

The trolling only surged when she posted two photos from yesterday’s game on Instagram. Captioned “bear down,” the post shows Biles in the gallery and on the field with her husband. Unsurprisingly, almost all comments revolved around her jacket, and fans could hardly hold back on the chuckles.

However, it’s evident that Biles has had enough and would like things to stop. Fortunately, the comment section on Threads is filled with encouraging words, as Simone’s fans urged her to turn the digs into white noise. However, this wouldn’t be the first time that Simone had to deal with jibes that also involved her football safety husband!

The jacket fiasco is only the latest in a long line of trolling against Simone Biles

Last year, Jonathan joked that he was the catch in his relationship with Simone Biles, and it wasn’t long before all hell broke loose. Throngs of fans took to social media to slam the NFL star for his comment and some of the flak also spilled over to Biles as well. However, the Olympian was quick to respond and stood firm in her husband’s corner despite everything.

In May of this year, she seemed to have crossed the threshold of her patience and sent out an ultimatum to the fans, asking them to give the couple a break. “I’m going to quickly address this, the joke was never a joke! Y’all are blatantly being disrespectful to my relationship & my husband. So I’m gonna go ahead & say this one time. Respectfully, f*ck off,” she wrote on Instagram.

Simone was also the target of several negative comments when Owens left the Green Bay Packers after just one season to get aboard the Chicago Bears train. While the gymnastics star was elated at the prospect of getting to meet her husband more frequently thanks to the transportation benefits between Houston and Chicago, the Packers fans took it as a dig at their team and expressed their displeasure on social media.
