Jonathan Owens' win: A moment of pride or a bittersweet reminder for Packers fans?

They say “You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.” The saying seems to be true for Green Bay Packers fans right now. As the Packers took a hit from the Philadelphia Eagles on September 7, one of their ex-stars helped his new squad clinch a stunning victory, and Green Bay loyalists can’t do anything but watch. The country’s most decorated gymnast of all time Simone Biles‘ husband Jonathan Owens is already making waves in his first year with the Chicago Bears, and his former camp is left reeling.

On September 8, the Chicago team hosted the Tennessee Titans at the Soldier Field Arena. Turning things around from a significant deficit, the Bears took the match 24-17, with a special performance from safety Owens. Soon after the match, Biles took to Instagram Threads to showcase her allegiance to her hubby’s new squad. “BEAR DOWN,” the Olympian wrote on the Meta platform, referring to the anthem of the NFL powerhouse, and Green Bay fans couldn’t help but remember how good things used to be just a year back.

The Packers enthusiasts soon took over the comment section of Biles’ post. “Miss you guys in Green Bay,” wrote one such fan, who seems to think having Owens in the team was an advantage that the Packers couldn’t make use of to its fullest potential. The football star spent just one year in Wisconsin before moving to Chicago. Considering the ease of communication that the move entailed, Biles was elated by the same. However, on the other hand, Packers fans didn’t take her jubilation all too nicely. Instead, they made it clear they’d be happier if she took her excitement down a few notches. But now, with Owens contributing significantly to the Bears’ latest NFC North victory, his former squad loyalists can only reminisce about the days gone by.

Packers fans tip their hats at Simone Biles’ husband

While the 7-time Olympic gold medalist basked in the musical brilliance of the Bears anthem, the Green Bay folks were trying to cope with their recent loss at the hands of the Eagles. Naturally, after witnessing Owens’ football skills on the other side of the country, his former team’s followers seem to think their misfortune could have been altered if he was still in Green Bay. “We already miss having you in Green Bay!” wrote another fan, evidently frowning at the fact that Owens’ time at Wisconsin wasn’t longer than it was.

Sometimes, just showing up beside your partner while they do their job can do volumes to increase their mental prowess. The NFL often divides households based on individuals’ loyalty to certain teams. And yet, as football fans, the touchdown Owens pulled off at the Bears vs Titans match was something of a spectacle that justifiably was lauded by all. “Girl Jonathan had my whole house yelling Simone,” wrote a Chiefs fan who claimed her excitement was limited to supporting her husband’s love for the Chicago team.

However, Brittnae is still having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that Owens has left the Packers for good. Justifiably, this fan couldn’t let the opportunity to take a subtle dig at the Bears slide. “Go Pack Go was so much more fun yeah?!” commented this fan, claiming that the Packers trounce the Chicago squad, at least when it comes to having a solid anthem.

Owens’ TD helped the Bears to reduce their deficit from 17-3 to 17-10, marking the first touchdown for the Chicago squad of the season. For reasons not too vague, the fans are over the moon with Owens right now. With that, they’re also finally looking to open their arms to Simone and her hubby for the foreseeable future. “Welcome to Chicago Queen,” gushed Maria in the comment section under Biles’ original post.
