The first half of the Chicago Bears’ Sunday night game against the Tennessee Titans was absolutely dismal! No. 1 pick in this year’s NFL Draft and Bears QB, Caleb Williams in his much-anticipated debut, had a tough time out there as he repeatedly overthrew his receivers on third down. This accounted for an 8-of-14 for 54 yards as the Bears fell behind 17-3 by the end of the first half. It took a safety in Jonathan Owens to literally scoop up the low-spirited Da Eber Floozies and jump-start a Chicago comeback.
The Bears walked out the Soldier Field as victors (24–17) that day. And much can be owed to Owens who made a big splash in the third quarter. Daniel Hardy blocked Ryan Stonehouse’s punt and Owens scooped up the ball at the Tennessee 21, sprinted 21 yards into the end zone, and cut Tennessee’s lead to 17-10. Let’s not lose sight of the fact that Owens made Bears history as he marked the first time that the Bears scored their first TD of a season on special teams in 26 years.
But wait. Won’t Owens’s wife, the 7x Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, be a little disappointed despite Owens giving the Bears their first score of the season? After all, Owens did fail to keep his word!

Back in August, HBO’s behind-the-scenes football show ‘Hard Knocks’ was focusing on the Bears for an episode. And Owens’ plan was aired live in that. Jonathan Owens was supposed to do a special tribute for his wife, Simone Biles, if he nabbed an interception this NFL season. And guess what is that? Not to forget it was not Owens alone who wanted to a piece of that celebration. In fact, the idea was the brainchild of his teammate defensive back Elijah Hicks!
Hicks had then proposed the idea of doing a flip whenever Owens secured an interception: “Yo, one of your celebrations, you got to do a flip when you get a pick,” Hicks said to Owens. “I’m [going to] salute with it, though,” Owens replied, throwing his hands up. “You gotta do a flip and land it,” Hicks said. “How hard would that [be]? That’s hard. That’s clean,” Hicks reminded the safety. As things stand, the touchdown happened, but not the move! But Simone isn’t one to pout over this. Just read what she had to say about Owens’ second-ever TD of his career:
Sunday Night Football on NBC tagged Simone Biles on X with a caption that read: “Jonathan Owens scoop and score on the blocked punt! How ya feeling, @Simone_Biles?” Simone wrote back with all caps, “I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK.” In another post on X, Biles wrote, “My heart.”
While Owens didn’t manage the flip and salute, he’s been making his mark with the Bears this season, showcasing his flair and energy on the field. However, even amid this, one moniker does not seem to leave Owens. A clip posted by ESPN features that, as Owens scored the touchdown, play-by-play announcer of Fox Sports Adam Amin was heard calling out, “Mr. Biles getting in there.” But This could have definitely spoiled the perfect picture. We have not yet forgotten what happened last year.

In December last year, Simone and Jonathan appeared in the Pivot Podcast. During the conversation, Jonathan had revealed that he did not know Simone until they started dating. But one comment of the then Green Bay Packers safety blew things out of proportion was when he mentioned that he was the ‘catch’ in their relationship. Simone’s fans did not take that lightly. For months after that, Jonathan was ripped into pieces by them. Their argument was simple.
Simone was already an Olympic champion when the two met. Slamming Jonathan for his lack of knowledge, Simone’s fans even started calling him by the same name that Adam Amin used: “Mr. Biles”. What they essentially meant was that among the two, Simone always was the more popular one. However, Simone had zero tolerance for all these. So she did not take time to issue a stern warning.
“Y’all are blatantly being disrespectful to my relationship & my husband. So I’m gonna go ahead and say this one time. Respectfully, f*** off. & if you keep commenting or tweeting at me I’m just going to block you. Simple as that,” Simone had written back then. In one of her Instagram stories she even appeared with a piece of leucoplast, apparently offering that to the haters to seal their mouths. “Let me know if you need a bigger piece,” she was heard saying in the clip. In the same Pivot podcast, Simone expressed one of her wishes.

The Podcast host Randolph Channing Crowder Jr. remarked about Jonathan, “He is one hell of a safety. But he is never going to be as good a safety as this one (Biles) is going to be at the gym.” Simone thought otherwise. “You know what, he might. Because the other day I said, you know what, in a couple of years, nobody is going to call him, Simone Biles’ husband. They’ll call me Jonathan Owens’ wife,” Simone had replied. Well, she did not just say that, but did as well.
In January, during the Packers game against the Cowboys, Simone unleashed her “Mrs. Owens” self at its best. She appeared to attend the game donning a customized black leather jacket that had 34 (Owens’ Packers jersey number) stitched to it. But something that overshadowed it was the Prominently written “Mrs. Owens” in the backside of the piece. However, despite all efforts of Simone, Sunday’s incident once again proved that the popularity meter is still heavily tilted toward Simone Biles. Will Owens ever be able to turn it toward himself?
