Does Simone Biles' strong bond with Jonathan Owens inspire you to believe in long-distance relationships?

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens have spent most of their time apart, especially in the last few months. While Owens took a break from practice to cheer for the GOAT in Paris, she had to stay with Team USA. Now, despite being back in the States, Biles is on the road thanks to the Gold Over America tour. However, just because they can’t be close for now, doesn’t mean they’re not together in spirit.

The seven-time Olympic gold medalist found the time to get a surprise tattoo for her husband after the show in Arizona. The 27-year-old got a “micro tattoo” on her ring finger commemorating their love with a ‘J’. Owens sports a similar tattoo of an ‘S’, albeit much larger, on his ring finger. It seemed the tattoo was a gesture for his wife ahead of the most important Olympics of her career.

However, there’s a lot more to the tattoo than met the eye. During an interview with Young Hollywood, the Olympian revealed the wholesome reason why Owens got the tattoo in July. “He actually has a big ‘S’ on his ring finger so when he’s not wearing his ring playing I’m still there with him,” Biles told Young Hollywood’s Leslie Robins.

You could say the Chicago Bears’ safety gave a whole new and wholesome meaning  to the term ‘Wrapped around your finger.’ The 29-year-old revealed the tattoo to his Olympic champion wife as a surprise, and since then, Biles planned to do the same for her husband. However, the eleven-time Olympic medalist kept it a secret.

The NFL star had no inkling that Simone Biles had planned a surprise for him despite her packed schedule. “He loves me so much; I love him, and I knew that it would be such a big surprise.” the world’s most decorated gymnast told Access Hollywood. So the defending all-around world champion revealed she called Owens at midnight after landing in San Francisco.

“He was like “I am going to cry,'” Biles told Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans inside Cryto.com Arena in LA. However, this is far from the first time the gymnast and NFL sat have commemorated their love through ink. Nor was the ‘J’ the only word Biles got inked in Arizona.

How Simone Biles tells the story through tattoos

“I actually have a couple of small tattoos,” the 27-year-old told Leslie Robins during their discussion. However, you’d be wrong to take the statement literally as the Olympian has quite a few tattoos. Yet, the 23-time gold medalist doesn’t get inked just because she enjoys it; Each time a tattoo artist has etched something on Biles’s skin, it’s carried immense significance.

In fact, you could trace the Olympic legend’s journey through the art of her body. Simone Biles’ first tattoo, the Olympic Rings, signifies the four gold gold she won during her debut at Rio 2016. However, since then the reference to her golden dream has grown with the word ‘golden’ on her wrist. The world champion paired that tattoo up with her birth year ‘1997’ as well.

Then comes the ink that signifies the bond she shares with Jonathan Owens. In 2023, the couple got matching ‘444’ tattoos. The there fours stand for, ‘4 better, 4 worse, 4 ever.’ signifying their unwavering commitment and love. So the ‘J’ and the ‘S’ only add to the ink that signifies their love. However, the gymnast’s tattoos don’t just celebrate the highs in her life and career.

In 2021, Simone Biles momentarily withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics due to the ‘twisties’. It marked the beginning of the champion addressing her mental health and speaking out about the struggle of her fellow athletes. The tattoo “And still I rise,” inspired by Maya Angelou’s poem reminds Biles of that journey. While Biles didn’t explain the significance behind the ‘Made in Heaven’ tattoo she got alongside the ‘J’, there’s a good chance it’s also significant. What do you believe? Tell us in the comments.
