Can Jonathan Owens and Simone Biles bring a new wave of energy to the Chicago Bears?

Simone Biles made quite the splash back in August with a sports fashion blunder that caught the attention of Bears fans. While cheering on her husband, Jonathan Owens, at a Chicago Bears preseason game, she showed up wearing—wait for it—a Green Bay Packers jacket! NFL fans couldn’t believe it, especially since Owens has been with the Bears since March this year, signing a two-year, $4.75 million deal. Talk about awkward, right?

The Bears and Packers have one of the oldest and fiercest rivalries in the NFL, going all the way back to 1921. With both teams sharing a division since 1933, the rivalry runs deep. So, when Biles sported that Packers gear on August 17, it felt like a jab, especially with Owens having previously played for Green Bay before joining the Bears. Yet she will have the chance to make amends and she is keen on proving where her loyalties lie.

Owens spent one season with Green Bay and made 11 starts in 2023 before signing with the Bears. Biles was seen at many of her husband’s games during that time, cheering him on. But after his move to Chicago, Biles perhaps unwittingly showed up at the Soldier Field wearing Packers gear.

That jacket, sporting a giant green Packers logo on the shoulder pad and decorated with action shots of the NFL safety, definitely made a statement. But here’s a twist: a month later, the situation might be looking up for Simone Biles. Why? It’s all related to the GOAT—yes, you heard it right! Biles is currently in the spotlight for the Gold Over America Tour, GOAT. So what’s the connection here?

The G.O.A.T. tour kicks off on September 17 in Oceanside, California, and will hit 30 cities before wrapping up in Detroit on November 3. Chicago is on the list for September 29 at the United Center, but here’s the twist: that same day, her husband, Jonathan Owens, will be playing in Chicago as the Bears take on the Los Angeles Rams at Soldier Field. So, will Biles be able to attend her husband’s match?

Can Jonathan Owens and Simone Biles bring a new wave of energy to the Chicago Bears?

Have an interesting take?

Jonathan Owens’ game starts at 12 p.m. while the Gold Over America Tour show is at 7 p.m. Looking at the schedule, it seems that Biles might also make it to the Bears’ game and surprise those in attendance. That will be the time when fans could finally forgive Biles and the past fashion blunder. After all, Biles’s recent wardrobe update also suggests she is ready to be on the right side of the fence.

When Biles received flak for her Packers jacket drama, she refused to hit back at the critics and kept things calm. Biles posted on Threads, “The way I be wanting to clap back soooo bad but I gotta stay as classy as possible.” While she chose to keep things “classy” at that time, she assured Bears fans that they didn’t have to worry about her matchday attire.

Even though she didn’t make it to the stadium on this occasion, we would expect her to be present for a Bears game sooner rather than later, now that she Bears gear to show off as well. But did you hear that Simone Biles was so invested in watching Owens play against the Titans that she nearly had a “heart attack”?

Simone Biles feels the adrenaline as Owens shakes up the soldier field

The atmosphere at Soldier Field turned silent as the third quarter concluded with the Titans leading 17-3. Suddenly and unexpectedly, Owens made a play by grabbing a blocked punt and running into the end zone for a touchdown. The Bears staged a comeback, narrowing the Titan’s lead to 17 to 10 and all. At once, the stadium was filled with energy and excitement.

Biles was glued to the action and couldn’t contain her thrill. She took to X to share her heart-pounding reaction, writing, “I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK,” followed by a more understated but equally heartfelt, “my heart.”

It’s clear she was feeling every bit of the adrenaline rush along with the crowd. For Owens, this touchdown was only the second of his NFL career—his first being a 27-yard fumble recovery last season with the Green Bay Packers.

This game was particularly special as it was his debut in a Bears uniform, and based on his performance, he’s likely to become a fan favorite this season. What are your views on it?
