Is Simone Biles' recent struggle a sign of vulnerability, or will she bounce back stronger than ever?

“Smiling doesn’t win you gold medals”. As Simone Biles faced criticism from the judges at Dancing With The Stars for not smiling enough, the strong response to host Tom Bergeron won hearts. However, despite being resilient, the US gymnastics legend always had a blind spot towards dancing. Being a gymnast, dancing becomes an irreplaceable part of the routines. While Biles does not shy away from learning new moves, her time at DWTS was nightmarish.

Fast forward to 2024, Biles is now the GOAT. Completing her redemption arc in Paris, winning a whopping 3 gold medals, Biles is now moving ahead to mesmerize her fans at the ‘Gold Over America’ tour. And co-incidentally, her nightmares with dancing have once again come back to haunt the GOAT.

In a recent upload on social media, Gold Over America Tour’s official page posted a snippet of Biles’ interview on their story. Speaking alongside her BFF Jordan Chiles, Biles recollected how she had to learn dance moves in under a week. The US gymnastics queen said, “We learn all of these dances in a week so that’s the most nerve-wracking part.”

Hearing Biles’ experience, the interviewer expressed his amazement at how the Gold Over America Tour was like a ‘pop concert.’ Now, Biles’ fear of dancing is quite normal keeping in mind her not-so-pleasant experience in Dancing With The Stars. Partnered with Sasha Faber, Biles was subjected to constant criticism from the judges.

After getting voted out of the competition, Biles seemed crestfallen. She stated that even after trying with her 100%, the judges were left unimpressed, which led the US gymnast to experience an emotional roller coaster. Opening up on her mental state to Entertainment Tonight, Biles recalled how she broke down, taking shelter in the washroom. Now, such a narrative might peg back the morals of an individual but it’s Simone Biles we are talking about. Thus, despite having a forgetful season, she learned some immaculate tricks that she passed on to another gymnast, Stephen Nedoroscik.

Simone Biles’ ‘fun’ advice fuels Stephen Nedorscik’s DWTS journey

Stephen Nedoroscik created history by pulling off a fantastic Pommel Horse routine. Guiding Team USA’s men’s gymnastics team to their first Olympic medal in over a decade, Nedoroscik soon attracted eyeballs. Known for his ‘Clark Kent’ looks, Nedoroscik signed up for the latest season of ‘Dancing With The Stars’. Speaking about his inspiration, ‘The Pommel Horse Guy’ cited Simone Biles as an example. He mentioned how Biles took up the challenge of venturing into completely alien territory.

And while Nedoroscik is all praises for the gymnastics GOAT, Biles too, passed on a word of advice. Paired with Rylee Arnold, Biles said to  Nedoroscik, “Just have fun.” Biles then also shared snippets from her experience, detailing the hardships that come with the shining lights of glitz and glamour.

Biles said, “It’s hard. Like dancing with the stars was so hard, it’s long hours. I feel like it’s almost harder than the gymnastics that we do. But we’re so out of our element.” And well, these suggestions seem to have worked wonders for Nedoroscik. Appearing for the first time, Nedoroscik and Arnold danced to Queen’s ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’.

Putting up a scintillating show, the duo impressed mightily as they notched up 21 on the scoreboard, which was the joint third-highest number for the night. Thus, from going back to face her fears to inspiring the coming generation, Simone Biles is winning outside of the gymnastics realm too.
