Mykayla Skinner Rehashes Defeating Gymnastics Role Model Shawn Johnson In Unconventional Battle

Shawn Johnson is a reckoning name in the gymnastics industry. Even after years of retirement, the Olympic gold medalist remains a name of reminiscing amongst field enthusiasts. Through her years of presence, Johnson embraced 4 Olympic medals and a number higher in the Pan American Games. However, off the mats in 2023, the gymnastics star seemed to face a defeat and did so against an admirer.

In a recent Instagram update, Johnson appeared on a reality show for a friendly challenge of tunes. But against fellow Olympic gymnast, Mykayla Skinner, the star faced an unexpected defeat on Wednesday evening.

The gymnastics stars battle it out

On the 6th of December, the show: ‘Celebrity Name That Tune,’ welcomed gymnastics stars, Shawn Johnson and Mykayla Skinner. In the update posted by Reality Fox Club, the duo were seen challenging each other to a lesser number of notes to guess the tune. Ultimately, Skinner found herself in a position to name the title in 8 notes. As Randy Jackson hit the keyboard, Skinner knew her answer to be ‘Somewhere over the rainbow‘ which earned her $15,000.

“These gymnasts aren’t one to play with on #NameThatTune!“ the post captioned at the rivalry. Interestingly enough, the 2020 Olympic vault silver medalist has stated Shawn Johnson to be her role model. The two, after a successful career run, retired to focus on personal life. While Skinner recently welcomed her first baby in September, Johnson is expecting her third anytime soon.

The Olympic gold medalist has taken to social media to form an engagement with the fans. Quirky updates with husband Andrew East and family have taken over the gymnast’s feed for long. Johnson also announced her pregnancy through a post on Instagram. As numerous athletes poured in to congratulate her, Skinner was one among them. Expressing her excitement, the Olympic silver medalist commented, “Can’t wait to have babies together! Congrats on baby number 3.”

Back in 2015, the team from Flo Gymnastics caught up with then then-senior gymnastics member and World Champion for a weekly interview. Among a series of questions, the gymnast was asked, “If you could be any other gymnast, who would you be? Why?” In reply, Mykayla stated, “Shawn Johnson, because she was amazing and an example and role model for me! I wanted to be just like her.”
