Simone Biles' bronze medal: A sign of decline or proof of her enduring greatness?

Jordan Chiles is back after tackling the biggest heartbreak of her life! And we can tell you she’s only come out stronger. After a 17-day social media break amid a never-seen-before bronze medal controversy, the 23-year-old was seen enjoying life as she cheered for her bestie Simone Biles some 1200 miles away from her Los Angeles residence.

Hometown superstar Biles took to the mound for a Ceremonial First Pitch at the Minute Maid Park where MLB powerhouse Houston Astros hosted the Kansas City Royals. The Astros shared a string of pictures featuring the 11-time-Olympic medalist, and sneakily added Chiles’ picture like we wouldn’t notice! A backshot showed the duo holding hands. Chiles’ other hand was raised in a celebratory motion as her BFF looked back over her shoulder to throw a quick pouting pose. “The GOAT,” wrote the Astros via its official Instagram account on August 30, as they shared those snippets.

In a second image reminiscent of the great friendship they share, Chiles and Biles were seen in a warm embrace. Along with Jordan, Simone was also accompanied by her NFL star husband, Jonathan Owens, who is also currently neck deep in his football responsibilities for the Chicago Bears.

This reunion comes just days after the 27-year-old openly called for justice for her friend. Biles has been a strong pillar of support for Jordan and revealed how she tried to help the heartbroken star.“We’ve been FaceTiming, texting, just being girls. I did talk to her on one of the days, and I was like, ‘You know what, Jordan, you have to feel all these feels. Don’t let these emotions stop you. This will be the healthiest way to get all of this out’,” the star told PEOPLE.

Furthermore, she also mentioned how CAS didn’t follow the “correct procedures” to come to its ruling. “That’s really why we want that justice for Jordan and why we’re going to keep supporting her and uplifting her.” But that’s not all as the Texas-native even sent cute customized gifts to lift her friend’s spirits!

“I’ve sent her little things, and it was like one of them was these four or five girls guarding a medal, and I thought that was the cutest. And then I sent her Flavor Flav’s bronze [medal he made for her] and then I sent her LeBron’s tweet,” she mentioned. Notably, after Chiles was stripped off her bronze medal after CAS ruling, Team USA had shared a tweet captioned, “Forever THAT GIRL”. James promptly re-tweeted the message with the infinity, love and USA Flag emojis, lending his voice to the cause.

As for rapper Flavor Flav, he’s been an avid supporter of the US Olympic gang this year! From a five-year sponsorship deal with the USA Water Polo organization to cheering for his fellow Americans from the stands, the Grammy-award nominee has contributed significantly. So how could he stay quiet when a young gymnast was suffering because of mistakes others reportedly committed?

On a separate note, Biles isn’t new to kicking off tantalizing matches by setting the tone with the fans eagerly waiting to see her throw the first pitch of the game. In 2016, the future GOAT would take her first-ever pitch in the very same stadium where she wowed the attendees today. On that memorable day, Biles sent the fans into a frenzy as she took a flip on the mound. Then she repeated the electrifying act in front of a 40,000-strong crowd in 2019. Naturally, when the Houston team announced yesterday that Biles would be the highlight of the pre-game shenanigans, fans were elated. But it was the sight of Chiles that took the arena by storm.

Simone Biles’ special moment brought Jordan Chiles out from sulking

Chiles was directed by the FIG and the CAS five days after her Olympic triumph to return her Olympic hardware. Citing that her inquiry was raised beyond the allotted time period, the authorities decided to take away Jordan’s medal to give it to Romania’s Ana Barbosu instead.

Naturally, Chiles was devastated by the news and soon announced that she would take some time off social media to process her misfortune. Her decision to go AWOL was also partially due to the fact that Chiles was being subjected to extensive backlash on social media platforms. Many even alleged that Chiles cheated during the women’s individual Floor Exercise in Paris, and the UCLA Bruins gymnast was understandably heartbroken. Moreover, Biles’ teammate was also met with racist attacks.

Jordan’s mother Gina and sibling Jazmin sought to seek justice and slammed back at the people who took digs at the gymnast. However, their efforts went in vain as the Olympian had to hand over her medal. But she soon made peace with her fate and made her thundering return as she looked to put the entire fiasco behind her. And now, as she made her way to Houston to stand behind Simone once again, do you think we will see Jordan back in action anytime soon? Drop in with a comment below!
