For most of the world, Simone Biles is a fiercely competitive gymnast who refuses to let defeats direct her career trajectory. However, many of her true fans would know, that the reigning All-Around world champ also isn’t shy to display her claws should anyone decide to go after those close to her. Among the people who Biles would gladly go the extra mile, her husband Jonathan Owens is certainly one and the Olympian has once again shown how calling Owens names is a serious offense in her books.
Ever since they started dating three years ago, Biles and Owens have never been shy about showing their support for each other. From Simone Biles attending the Chicago Bears star’s big games to Owens showing up to support the gymnast at the Xfinity US Championships, the couple makes sure they are each other’s biggest cheerleaders. And now, Biles has once again spoken her mind when a fan tried to take a dig at her husband on social media.

Simone Biles’ ferocity was highlighted in a recent post made by an apparent fan of her teammate Suni Lee on X yesterday. Captioned, “IM SCREAMING I LOVE HER,” the post shares a screenshot of the country’s most decorated gymnast’s comment from one of her recent TikTok posts where she and Owens were seen dancing in coordination and having a good time to Tommy Richman’s hit tune Devil Is A Lie. However, one fan seemed to think it was “Simone and her pet,” in the video, and it wasn’t long before the four-time Olympic gold medalist retorted.

“awwww you look like mermaid man,” jeered Simone Biles taking a jibe at the person’s orange outfit. The apparent calm and humor that she put on display against the seemingly disgruntled comment won over the fan who had to go on to X to express her feelings for the world to listen. However, this wouldn’t be the first time that Biles made her feelings clear about those who dissed Jonathan.
In May, Biles took to Instagram to underscore how she’s fed up with people targeting her personal life and name-calling Owens. “Y’all are blatantly being disrespectful to my relationship & my husband. So I’m gonna go ahead and say this one time. Respectfully, f*** off & if you keep commenting or tweeting at me I’m just going to block you. Simple as that,” said a fuming Simone Biles. Considering how new information about Owens’ rock-steady support for his wife came to light, Biles’ reaction to such potshots shouldn’t come as a surprise either.

In the recently released Netflix docu-series Simone Biles: Rising, the Columbus native talked about how Jonathan was a pillar of support ever since the mental turbulence she experienced at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Revealing that her husband extended his shoulder for Simone Biles to lean on, the 23-time World Championships gold medalist hailed the football safety as one of her biggest support systems. Along with her mother Nellie and the rest of her family, Jonathan was present in Biles’ corner whenever she felt anxiety and ill thoughts clouding her mind. It was probably thanks to the unwavering support from her loved ones that the Olympian got her mojo back and reclaimed her top position.
Ever since Simone Biles made her competitive comeback at last year’s US Classic, she has won every single tournament she participated in. At the 2024 Xfinity US Championships, Biles recorded her first scores above 60 since 2021, highlighting her determination to soar to the top once again.
