What holds more weight: talent or finances? It’s a question that hits hard, especially for athletes. Imagine being skilled but unable to pursue your dreams due to financial hurdles. That’s the reality for a proud 25-year-old Haitian gymnast. Despite being qualified for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, as announced by the International Gymnastics Federation last month, she faces the daunting task of securing funds to make the journey possible to Paris. Right now, she’s akin to being on a ship with all sails set, but lacking the fuel to move forward, it’s a tough road ahead. But she’s not giving up.

Lynnzee Brown recently expressed her gratitude on the X, thanking everyone for their congratulatory messages. Overwhelmed by the opportunity bestowed upon her, she aims to represent and honor the Haitian Federation. She acknowledges their role in encouraging her to pursue what once seemed daunting. Additionally, she shared a GoFundMe campaign to alleviate the financial strain associated with attending the games, emphasizing that all proceeds would solely contribute to Olympic-related expenses for a smoother journey.

Any surplus funds would be directed to the Haitian Olympic Committee to aid other athletes in attending competitions. While the Haitian Federation is doing its best to support Lynnzee Brown, additional funds would provide her with the opportunity to train and prepare for competition without the burden of financial stress. Moreover, these funds would cover the extra expenses of the coaches’ travel and support her home expenses while she competes abroad. Brown, whose illustrious six-year career at DU culminated in a fourth-place finish in the all-around at the 2023 NCAA National Championships, stands as one of the university’s most celebrated gymnasts.
