Adding another accolade to her already impressive list of achievements, she has been named one of Glamour magazine’s Women of the Year. Alongside other legendary athletes like Serena Williams and Allyson Felix, Lee too received valuable recognition not just for her athletic success but also for her determined spirit in the face of challenges. However, for Suni Lee, this doesn’t seem to be the biggest highlight of the evening.

Lee was decked in stunning silver attire to attend the evening of glitz, glamour, and success. The atmosphere was filled with awe and admiration for the young gymnast. But nothing could have prepared her for what happened next. An unexpected, surreal, and heartwarming encounter with Beyoncé made the evening even more memorable for Lee, who has long been a fangirl of the superstar.

A few months before the Paris Olympics unfolded, Lee had to put her collegiate gymnastics career at Auburn on hold. Diagnosed with two rare kidney diseases in 2023, she was almost bedridden at one point, unable to imagine returning to competition, let alone another Olympic Games. However, destiny had different plans, and Suni did not shirk away from toiling towards her goal. Fighting against the setbacks, she found herself back in the gym, determined to compete in Paris 2024. And it is this resilient spirit of hers that deserves all the recognition and also received the award from Glamour Magazine.

Suni recently sat for an interview with Yahoo Sports. While speaking about how 2024 has been a whirlwind of a year for her, she also reflected on the emotional rollercoaster she stepped into after meeting Beyoncé. Spoting Beyoncé from a distance, Lee’s fangirl spirit was kicking in. She stated, “I wanted to say hi to her, but everybody was crowding her. So I felt bad. So I stayed behind.”

But God had a better plan to make her evening sparkle even more. Within a few seconds, Beyoncé saw Suni, and Queen B herself came up to her to have a conversation. Narrating the experience, Suni recalled, “She ran up to me. And I was like, Wait, is this real life? There’s no way. She actually knew who I was…We had a real conversation. I mean, she was saying that her and her kids watched us at the Olympics.” However, Lee still seemed to be in disbelief, as she herself stated that she was “kind of freaking out.”

Suni also stated how she “was over the moon” when she came to know that she had actually been nominated for the Glamour Magazine award alongside such iconic women. She was already awestruck by the fact that she was “able to be in the same room as some of these people.” And as for meeting Beyoncé? That moment may have been the icing on the cake, but for Suni Lee, it was just one more incredible chapter in an already extraordinary journey. But this wasn’t the only glamorous venture for Suni, as it appears!

Olympic champ strikes gold at NY Fashion Week, stuns at Victoria’s Secret show

After coming back from the French capital with three Olympic medals, Suni Lee moved out of her hometown of Minnesota to New York. This turned out to be a boon for Lee, as she could finally realize one of her biggest dreams. Inclined towards fashion right from her childhood, Suni Lee always fancied a chance to attend the New York Fashion Week in person. Unfortunately, due to her busy schedule and her distance from Minnesota, Lee’s dream remained unfulfilled. That is until this year, when the Tokyo all-around champion finally got to make her fashion debut at the prestigious event.

Collaborating with stylist Brian Meller, Lee turned heads with her impressive sense of clothing. With things turning out pretty well for the Olympian, Lee stated that she wanted to try out different things and experiment with her clothing. Fortunately, all her trials became a huge success as Lee continued to venture out into several more fashion events. One of them was the recently concluded Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on October 15. 

Managing a hectic schedule, Lee dazzled yet again, and this time, she also came with some fashion tips to share. Sharing her happy moments from the event, Suni Lee took to her Instagram and shared a story that reflected her fashion choices. It read, “I feel like I would just say to be confident and just stick to what you know. Nothing more, nothing less, because your average is good enough. That’s my motto.” Lee also followed it up with a subsequent snap with Lisa, who was a popular member of the South Korean band, BlackPink. Awestruck by her appearance, Lee wrote in her story, “My queen, @lalalalisa_m.” Thus, coming out of her dark phase post the Tokyo triumph, Suni Lee seems to be enjoying life again, both inside and outside the gymnasium.
