With major sponsors on board, is Simone Biles the most influential gymnast of our time?

After her impressive campaign at the Paris Olympics, Simone Biles is set to embark on a new challenge with the Gold Over America tour. The 30-city tour will travel all around the US from September 17th, starting in Oceanside, California, to  Detroit on November 30th. It is a gymnastics-based pop concert-type event where some of the best gymnasts in the world will be showcasing their skills with brilliant choreography in a 110-minute show.

This is the second event of its kind, following the inaugural edition held in 2021 after the Tokyo Olympics. The first event was a major success, receiving widespread praise. The second edition promises to deliver even more, with gymnasts like Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, Hezly Rivera, and Fred Richard set to perform. As a result, numerous companies with strong ties to Simone Biles have stepped forward to sponsor the event and ensure its smooth execution.

The main sponsor for the Simone Biles-led Gold Over America Tour is Athlos. The company has been Simone’s long-term apparel partner since she left Nike in 2021. She said that there were numerous reasons for choosing the female activewear brand. Talking to NBC, she said, “I will have my own activewear line to inspire girls before, during, and after their careers. But mainly, I partnered with Athleta because they saw confidence in me, and they just have such a huge platform, and I like how they said they inspire me in the gym and out of the gym.”

Since then, she has become the face of the brand and launched her own line of fitness wear with Athleta Girl. The mutual trust and belief between both parties have elevated their success to new heights. When Simone signed with the company, they committed to supporting her gymnastics tour, which eventually became the ‘Gold Over America Tour.’

By keeping their promise, they backed the first edition, which turned out to be a massive success. As a result, the company has decided to sponsor the second event as well. This demonstrates how highly they value Simone Biles as an athlete, something evident in every campaign they run. Since 2023, Biles has been the main face of the ‘Power of She’ campaign, which also features athletes like Katie Ledecky, Monica Puig, and Mariah Bell. However, the company’s relationship with Biles remains a top priority due to her star status and the fact that she was one of the first major athletes to sign with them. As such, Athleta will serve as the primary sponsor for the Gold Over America Tour, alongside numerous other sponsors who will also be part of the tour.

Who are the other major sponsors of GOAT?

  • Gold Sponsors

GK Elite is another gymnastics apparel brand that will be sponsoring the Gold Over America Tour. The leotard worn by the US gymnasts during the Olympics was designed by them. The company has been a long-term endorser of Simone, with the first deal being signed in 2015. She then extended the deal again in 2021. Simone states that the reason for the partnership is because of her love for their leotard. In a statement, after she signed with them, she said, “I’ve always loved training and competing in GK leotards. It’s amazing to be able to represent a brand that I’ve worn throughout my gymnastics career.”

The company serving as the supplier sponsor for the Gold Over America Tour is Spieth. A gymnastics equipment company, Spieth first began sponsoring Simone Biles in 2012. Since then, they have actively supported her career by supplying gymnastics equipment for her events. Consequently, they will also sponsor the Gold Over America Tour. In 2018, when Simone signed a 10-year renewal with them, she talked about their contribution to her career. She said, “I first started training with their equipment as a junior gymnast and am excited to build upon our partnership, as Spieth shares my commitment to taking gymnastics to new heights. Together, we can help promote a new era for the sport in the United States and around the world.”

  • Bronze Sponsors

The Gold Over America Tour 2024 prides itself on having 2 bronze sponsors. The first one is Powerade, a sports beverage brand owned by the market giant Coca-Cola. Earlier in April this year, the company had even launched a creative campaign starring Simone Biles. The aim was to initiate and normalize conversations around mental as well as physical well-being among athletes. And as the gymnast endorsed the ‘power to pause,’ she was seen executing a Vault move, while the questions and comments regarding her Tokyo failure faded into the background. Adding to this, the GOAT tour’s newest sponsor is Winkclique, a beauty brand known for its luxurious lash extensions.

The medicine company Lilly will serve as the silver sponsor for the Biles-led Gold Over America Tour. In fact, for every milestone that the American Olympians and Paralympians hit in Paris (medal or record), the company vowed to donate $5000 towards charity for health equity purposes. K18, a biotech haircare company is set to be the 2024 Gold Over America Tour’s supplier sponsor. Just a few months before the Paris Olympics, Simone Biles signed a 2-year contract as the brand ambassador and featured in their ‘Inner Strength’ campaign. Well, what’s more significant? Redefining her boundaries as a gymnast. “A lot of people think gymnasts don’t do much with beauty— that we don’t wear makeup or change up our hair— but that’s not the case,” she says. Well, cut that out, as it’s time hair flips are as important as the gymnastic ones!

Thus, with such huge companies banking on the event, it makes it seem like it is bound to be a success. Hopefully, the Gold Over America Tour matches up to the hype.
