How far can Jordan Chiles push the limits of the sport? When you think of gymnastics, you normally don’t imagine athletes wearing heels while showing off their brazen skills. However, Chiles isn’t one to let the norms of the game define her mettle. While the gymnastics community continues to clamor against the alleged injustice against the UCLA gymnast by the IOC and the FIG, it looks like Chiles has enough things to keep herself busy.
The 23-year-old Olympic gold medalist just finished off a two-month-long road trip across the USA with her bestie Simone Biles and other national teammates for the second edition of the Gold Over America Tour. Understandably, some break time is warranted, and it looks like Chiles is making the most of it. Jordan made an appearance at the Houston Rockets vs NY Nicks match yesterday, and her antics at the Toyota Center got the fans gushing.
Chiles returned to the prestigious Houston arena after three weeks to catch the Rockets take on the Nicks (which the Rockets won 109-97), and she was welcomed with enthusiastic cheers by the attending fans. However, the highlight of her visit came as the gymnastics star took on the Rockets mascot Clutch for a duel of handstand prowess. The official Instagram account of the Houston basketball team shared snippets of the moment via a post on November 5.

The brief video clip shows Clutch and Chiles both dishing out their best handstanding abilities, with the mascot highlighting a hint of jealousy at how good its opponent was. However, Chiles took things sportingly and gave Clutch the leeway. However, the fans could barely hold back their astonishment at seeing Chiles execute the move with her heels on.

“In heels is CRAZY,” wrote the official Houston Rockets in the comment section of the IG post, noting just how incredible Chiles’ feat was last night. Even though Chiles’ phone falls out of her back pocket, she remains composed and maintains her graceful stance. For understandable reasons, Clutch attempts to sabotage the Olympian’s maneuver but the fan couldn’t stop remarking how the latter’s poise was nothing short of enchanting.

Another fan by the username of chita_craft also was enthralled by how Chiles managed to pull off the handstand in her heels. “In her heels,” read the stunned comment of the fan. Elite gymnasts most often perform barefooted, but Jordan didn’t seem uncomfortable for once while displaying her skills at the very venue that saw her entice the fans with her moves on October 19. Naturally, her latest display caught Chiles’ loyalists off guard, and Jazmyn also commented, “In the heels,” highlighting how it was a refreshing take on the popular sport.

For Beverly, it was something else that stood out during Chiles’ impromptu gymnastics routine at the Rockets game. While many expressed their concern at Jordan’s phone falling out, the fact that she managed to keep the rest of her stuff in place is what made the performance special for the fans. “It’s the fact that the wig nor the hat fell off for me,” wrote Beverly, claiming it to be “black girl magic.”
Chiles’ ongoing battle against the global gymnastics apexbody has gained a lot of attention worldwide. Despite winning bronze in the individual floor exercise, the FIG and the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sports) directed her to return her hardware for allegedly not following protocol. However, Chiles is determined to continue the fight to retain her possession, with support pouring in from every front, including from her WCC training partner Simone Biles. Nonetheless, nothing can take away the fact that Chiles also boasts a team gold medal in her resume, and one fan thinks her stunt at last night’s match only proves the brilliant gymnast that Jordan Chiles is. “IN HEELS LIKE THE GOLD MEDALIST SHE ISSSS,” wrote Maren in the comment section.
