Jonathan Owens losing his mind over Simone Biles' win—Is this the kind of support every athlete needs?

Jonathan Owens can’t keep calm because Simone Biles has erased the curse of the Tokyo Olympics! Shedding a huge load from her shoulders, the US gymnastics queen has finally completed her redemption with her scintillating performance at Paris 2024. Competing in the women’s all-around team finals, Simone Biles looked focused and on point right from her first routine.

As the rotations progressed, Biles started to own the show in Paris. Giving her able support, the likes of Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, and Jade Carey too propelled Team USA to a thumping victory. Moments after Biles’ gold medal victory, Jonathan Owens posted several stories acknowledging the historic feat of his wife. In his Instagram stories, Owens shared a post from Bleacher Report, a picture-perfect snap of Simone Biles posing after her routine, and an overwhelming view of the arena with the words, “Gold medal baby!!!!!!!”

Surely, the excitement is very much justified after everything Biles has gone through over the last three years. On a similar night in Tokyo, Simone Biles had to leave the Olympic arena with a heart full of regret and tears in her eyes. Cut to 2024 Paris, and Simone Biles is crying again. But these tears are the ones of joy and redemption. The moment the final score flashed on the giant screen, Simone Biles and her teammates jumped up in the air. Hugging the gymnastics queen tightly, Suni Lee exclaimed, “We did it!”

With the big win, not just Jonathan Owens but also Team USA, especially Suni Lee, will remember the night in Tokyo when, after Biles faltered in the vault, her pained face reflected the agony of millions of gymnastics fans worldwide. The final standings revealed that Team USA was a notch above the others with 171.296 points. Italy came in second place, winning an Olympic medal in women’s gymnastics after 100 years, with a score of 165.494. Brazil rounded off the podium, taking the bronze medal with 164.497 points, narrowly edging out Great Britain.

Simone Biles’ team gold comes as a huge relief for Jonathan Owens too, who has stood like a pillar throughout Biles’ tough times. Owens caught all the action of Simone Biles’ opening performance on July 28 from his home. But when it came down to the finals, Owens obtained special permission from the Bears authorities to fly to Paris and witness history in person. Speaking about Owens’ role in helping her conquer her demons, Simone Biles was all praise in her recently released documentary.

Have an interesting take?

In the recently released Netflix documentary, Simone Biles Rising, Biles explained how her husband supported her in overcoming the tough times. Reminiscing about the incidents, Simone Biles stated that Owens is usually a very composed person. When Biles began to doubt herself, Owens always made her believe that she would soon reach the pedestal to which she belonged.

Elaborating on how the NFL star cared for Biles, the Olympian mentioned, He was making sure I was going to my therapy sessions and was trying to do as much as he could, without kind of being bossy, but he was really just like a shoulder to lean on because he saw like those dark times after Tokyo.” In fact, to ensure Simone Biles regularly attended the therapy sessions, Owens, too, opted for the same. In the end, everything seems to have paid off. And now, having won the team gold, Simone Biles will be looking to win the all-around gold too, to complete her redemption arc.
