Falling on stage, yet rising again—does Simone Biles embody the true spirit of resilience?

14 cities later, the Simone Biles-led Gold Over America Tour is ready to rock Boston! This gymnastics concert-style tour is still going strong, and watching the GOAT and her crew do their thing is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many. After her legendary Olympic run, where she became America’s most decorated gymnast, having her headlining the tour and leading the charge means every show feels like something special. It’s not just about the performances; each routine tells a story, like her moving performance to “Rise Up” by Andra Day, and elements from her flight crew!

And let’s not forget her unique tumbling elements—some never seen before! Simone makes even the toughest gymnastics moves look like a walk in the park, and with seven Olympic gold medals to her name, it’s no wonder she’s a legend. Plus, she’s got five signature moves named after her, proving just how phenomenal she truly is! But here’s the kicker: even the greatest of all time, like Simone, can sometimes trip over the basics!

Just hours before the big show in Boston, Simone Biles gave fans a sneak peek of her practice on Instagram, and let’s just say, it was a delightful mix of fun and humility! In a playful moment, she posted a video of herself attempting a back full on the GOAT stage. Now, for those who might not know, back fulls—aka back flip 360s—are like the bread and butter of gymnastics and tumbling. But, as we all know, even the best have their off moments, and Simone Biles didn’t quite nail the landing this time, taking a tumble onto the mat. She humorously captioned the story, “back to the basics. not all of us are terrified of a back full though…..” It’s moments like these that remind us even the greatest can laugh at themselves.

But hold up, it gets better! Right after that, Simone posted another story showing her improvement. This time, she made it to “2 1/2,” a clear step up from her earlier attempt. While the landing wasn’t perfect, it was an upgrade, and she couldn’t help but admit, “It’s so scary.”

In the first story, Simone was flipping to Surf Mesa and Madison Beer’s catchy song “Carried Away,” and you could see some of the Gold Over America Tour crew practicing their moves in the background. The subsequent story had the same vibe, with the crew all in action, prepping for their performance. But here’s a thought: does Simone struggling with the basics hint at something deeper—like a potential step back from competition or maybe even retirement?

Have an interesting take?

While there’s no official word on Simone Biles retiring, there are definitely some signs raising questions about her career ahead. During her appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Simone casually mentioned, “I’m getting older. 27 is a little bit old for a gymnast,” when asked about her plans for the LA Olympics. After her stellar performance in Paris, everyone thought she’d be a shoo-in for another run, but some of her reflections paint a different picture.

She got real about how her body feels these days, sharing that even though she feels young and vibrant outside the gym, she’s starting to notice the wear and tear. “In gymnastics, I’m aging like fine wine. For a gymnast, old. Outside the gym, I’m young—tequila, no hangover!” Her playful vibe mixed with that reality shows just how torn she is about jumping back into the competitive scene. She’s even hinted at the future, saying, “Never say never,” but added, “Next Olympics are at home. So you just never know. I am getting really old.”

With the next Olympics still four years away, she’s left pondering what the future holds. But ahead of LA 2028, fans can count on her words: “I want to see what I’m still capable of, so once I step away from this sport, I can truly be happy with my career and say I gave it my all.”
