Alongside the Instagram photos of him proudly holding his gold medal, Phillips wrote, “Thank you, Santiago. These people are amazing. I’m so proud of Team U.S.A. and the growth of this year. It’s only the beginning. 1 Chronicles 29:11 ‘Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty'”.

Phillips looked glad in the pictures as he beamed with joy and gratitude, standing beside his team. He had helped Team U.S.A. win the team gold but was reluctant to take sole credit for it. The athlete acknowledged the collective effort and growth of the team and expressed his belief that greater successes await them in the future.

He has proven his mettle at the Pan American Games this season. The former Stanford Cardinal standout also won two gold at the Pan American Championships in Medellin. He hopes to pull his team to the top at the upcoming World Championships and Olympic Games, but his gymnastics career is fast drawing to a close.

The devout Christian wants to help as many people as he can. He believes a medical profession will allow him to serve God through the patients. Therefore, he is equally committed to attaining his medical degree as he is to his Olympic aspirations. The E.V.O. gymnastics superstar revealed in a Gymnastics Now interview, “I’ve always had a passion for medicine, and I’ve always known I wanted to help people”. Medical studies require total dedication, which could mean that the gymnastics world could lose its rising star very soon.

However, for now, Curran Phillips is determined to pursue his gymnastic goals. One of those goals is to help his team take the gold in the World Championships and the Olympics. With that ambition to trigger him, Phillips is training the Yurchenko double pike that Simone Biles has perfected over the years. Team U.S.A. has found an absolute star in him, and it would be a great loss if he should leave the sport.
