Ian Gunther is having a tough time, and he is not shy about acknowledging it. Coming into the Winter Cup, Gunther was touted as one of the favorites to clinch victory. His performance in the tournament build-up gave his fans high expectations for him. In fact, Gunther’s performance in 2023 made him a prospective contender for the Paris Olympics’ 2024 glory as well. Unfortunately, things usually do not go as planned. That is precisely what happened to Gunther. 

In a shocking turn of events, Gunther could not do justice to his name. The 24-year-old struggled significantly on the parallel bars, leaving his fans devastated. Following his performance, the NCAA athlete posted a tweet updating his followers about his well-being.

Ian Gunther was one of the biggest draws when the parallel bar event commenced. Unfortunately, he wasn’t in his true element and struggled throughout the routine. Following his performance, Gunther took to his Instagram story, where he was spotted with several chips attached to his body. Although he was smiling with a thumbs up, the NCAA athlete revealed the struggles with his elbow. 

The caption of his story read, “I’m ok 👍 I’ve been struggling with an elbow in[u]ry for a while and considered scratching horse and p’s. I tried to push through, but the pain got to be too much to finish p’s.” Gunther has been in sublime form since the start of his NCAA career. The 24-year-old has dominated the realm, picking up the NCAA All-American title on 10 occasions. 

Gunther also holds the honor of winning the NCAA championship a whopping four times, which speaks volumes of his abilities. However, as talented an athlete as Gunther is, his relationship with the bars hasn’t been so friendly.

Ian Gunther has an uncanny knack for dismantling bars

As surprising as it might sound, Ian Gunther has a habit of breaking his bars. This concern has persisted for quite some time now. The latest fiasco took place just days before the Winter Cup. On February 21, the athlete shared an Instagram story citing an incident of yet another broken bar.

In the picture, Gunther was sporting a dejected expression, holding the broken bar. His caption read, Why do I keep breaking bars.” Well, while this question is yet to be answered, Gunther’s fans will desperately want him to return to his usual self and get on the right track ahead of the Paris Olympics in 2024.
