Olympic all-around champion Suni Lee made a spectacular comeback to the all-around discipline at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships. Battling Kidney disease, it was Suni’s first all-around performance after 2021. Beyond competition, it was more like getting the confidence back for Suni. After she successfully did that, even Simone Biles could not stop herself from cheering. She ran over the floor to give a high five to Suni in a display of camaraderie.

That did not skip the eyes of Kathy Johnson Clarke as she expressed her praise and emotion together in an X post. “Way to bounce back after vault, Suni! Stunning work as always! And shout out to Simone for running over from floor to support and cheer her on! Gymnasts are beautiful human beings! 🥹❤️, Kathy wrote.

Simone Biles continued to lead with a score of 15, even though she made an error on her Yurchenko double-pike vault. She demonstrated her superiority on the floor exercise by performing a triple-twisting double somersault. Her 15.1 kept her in control even though she went out of limits.

Some talented veterans, including Leanne Wong, Jordan Chiles, and Jade Carey, fell off the balancing beam tonight. But Suni Lee declined to accompany them. With the help of a few small stumbles, Lee significantly raised her beam score from the first night and performed a largely clean performance that had her fists pumping in joy. With a score of 14.900, Suni Lee outperformed Simone Biles by a tenth of a point.

Simone Biles’s achievement was all but certain by the time she vaulted backward and onto the mat. Her advantage was so great and her vault named for herself so challenging that victory was certain. At Dickies Arena, Biles dominated the competition and earned her ninth national all-around title.

Throughout the two competition evenings, Biles scored highest in all four events. She won by a whopping 5.9 points overall, which is stunning. A strong routine on uneven bars, which is her “weakest”, concluded Simone Biles’ evening. With ease, she transitioned from one ability to the next while performing between the bars. She finished ahead of Skye Blakely in the event with a 14.4 score and an overall total of 29.050 across the two nights.
