Gymnast GOAT Simone Biles was just three years old when the authority terminated her biological mother Shanon’s parental rights. Shifting from one foster care to another, life was difficult and uncertain for the young kids. However, an unexpected phone call and a decision changed things for the better. As destiny would have it, the life of the Biles siblings changed drastically, as they were formally adopted by someone special.

As Nellie Biles was approaching her 50th birthday, she had no clue that her life was awaiting an unexpected turn. She could nowhere anticipate that she again had to cope with stroppy teenagers and adolescent mood swings. Nellie scored perfect marks as he transitioned from a grandmother to a mother.

That one phone call that made the difference

What would otherwise have been a mundane day for the Biles couple became memorable with a special call. Having passed their parenting days, Nellie and Ronald were hardly prepared for the upcoming events. A social worker from Ohio informed Ron that his daughter Shanon is deemed incapable of caring for her kids.

On learning about Shanon’s condition, Nellie and Ron formally adopted their biological granddaughters. And by the end of 2000, they were raising Simone and her younger sister Adria. Caring for the grandkids as their children were never easy; there were initial hurdles. But Nellie, with her love and care, braved them all. She started caring for the kids as her own.

As Nellie once acknowledged, “making a decision to adopt Simone and her sister … it was the best decision we made.” The Biles broke the pre-set condition. As the gymnast’s mother rightly quotes, “It takes someone strong to make someone strong.” There is hardly any doubt that as Simone climbed the stairs of success, her mother stood beside her during thick and thin.
