Years have passed since young Simone and her sister were adopted by their maternal grandparents. But perhaps some memories never fade away. One such memory was of Simone Biles’ stay in foster care. Now the 25-year-old is a gymnastics maestro. With 25 World Championships and 7 Olympic medals, the young gymnast has taken the world by storm. Establishing herself as a gymnastics GOAT, she has mended life according to her will.

But such was not always the case. For young Biles siblings, switching from one foster care to another was difficult. Things became more challenging when she did not know what to do when her biological mother wanted to reunite.

For Simone: A tough choice

Life took a toll on the Biles kids when mother Shanon was diagnosed with drug and alcohol struggles. For the betterment of the children, they were placed into foster care. Being the younger one, Simone did not have the opportunity to spend much time with Shanon.

But such was not the case for Ashley and Tevin; having spent more time, they were visibly closer to their mother. The wish to reunite with her children was apparent for Shanon, but Nellie was hesitant. She did not want to disrupt the life of the young kids any longer. However, Ron held a contradicting view. Even Simone did not know how to feel” when her biological mother wanted to reunite.

Quoting her words, she said, “I felt so torn.” Undoubtedly she wanted to be with her brother and sister, but at the same, she did not want to part with her grandparents. As she says, “I don’t know the world without them.”

She is now a leading sports personality and someone who can afford a luxurious lifestyle. But for Simone, life was never such easy. She can empathize with those kids who struggle to find a “home.”

It is her early experience that impacted and shaped her thought process. Having experienced life in foster care, Simone dedicates herself to helping and improving the lives of others who are now in “foster care.”
