The Olympics is the most prestigious event for an athlete. Along with the athletes, their countrymen also look forward to the games. When an athlete wins a medal it brings immense pride and satisfaction to citizens of that particular country. The medal-winning athletes are hailed as heroes of the nation and they become an inspiration for the youth. Simone Biles, along with her teammates became an inspiration to many after they won the gold medal.

Simone Biles has won multiple laurels in the Olympic games. She has won medals in individual as well as team events. The decorated athlete has always been a part of the team in the artistic gymnastics event. The artistic gymnastics team event is one of the most competitive events in the sport.
The fierce-five surprise Barack Obama
The United States has a tradition to welcome medal-winning athletes to the White House. The Presidents of the United States continue this tradition which was started in 1924. In 2012, The US Women’s Gymnastics team created history by winning the team event in gymnastics. This win was highly celebrated as it was the second time the Women’s team had won the gold medal in the history of the Olympic games.
Obama congratulated the women gymnasts for bringing home the Gold medal. The team included Simone’s former teammates McKayla Maroney, Kyla Ross, Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas, and Jordyn Wieber. They were called ‘The Fierce Five’. At a rally in Mansfield, Obama praised the gymnasts.
He was flabbergasted by their unbelievable skills. “How do you not bust your head every time you’re on that little balance beam? I couldn’t walk across that balance beam. So anyway, we could not be prouder of them.”, he said while addressing his supporters.
“So impressed by how you bounced back and led the team. Tell your parents I’m proud of them too. I don’t think I could watch if I were them”, he told Jordyn Wieber. Obama individually congratulated all the members of the team.
Simone Biles continues the legacy
The Women’s Gymnastics team left no stones unturned to get to the top after winning the Gold medal in 2012. They repeated their medal-winning bout once again at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian, and Aly Raisman were the members of the team.

Obama hosted the team at the White House in 2016. He hosted all the medal-winning athletes from both the Olympics as well as the Paralympics. It was the last group of Olympians that he hosted before completing his term as the President of the United States. He addressed all the athletes with a great message. Obama stressed the outstanding performances put forward by American Women.
