Can Leanne Wong surpass Simone Biles as the next gymnastics superstar?

Leanne Wong‘s journey in the realm of gymnastics is a seamless amalgam, balancing both academics and athletics. The 20-year-old gymnastic prodigy has won several titles and honors, including her recent win at the US Core Hydration Classic. Wong secured the second spot next to the legendary Simone Biles. Her other notable achievements include silver in uneven bars and gold in the team at the Pan American Games in 2019. The young champion currently holds an all-American honors in the NCAA Championship as well.

Hailing from Kansas, Wong was born on September 20, 2003, to parents Marco Wong and Bee Ding. Growing up, she displayed a keen interest in the sports world, from ice skating to gymnastics galore. Interestingly enough, the 5 foot 1-inch tall gymnast has even written a book! The world has witnessed her multipotentialite interests, yet she chose gymnastics as her primary career choice at a very young age. What else does the entrepreneur-gymnast have up her sleeve?

Gymnastics career of the wunderkind

The Florida gymnastics star, Leanne Wong, started her gymnastics career at the tender age of 5. She qualified as an elite gymnast in 2017, further securing her spot in the National Championships, where she finished third in the floor exercises. The 2003-born later debuted at the Junior Pan American Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her first performance on the international stage made her win a gold in the team event and a bronze in the all-around.

She has shown active participation in college gymnastics because she enjoys it. As of now, the Kansas native is the only gymnast with three top and two individual finishes in the 2024 NCAA Championship. Unlike an average gymnast, Wong not only oversees studies, college gymnastics, and elite gymnastics, but also owns a business. Leanne Wong’s dedication to sports and personal life surpasses that of an average Olympic gymnast. It’s interesting to see if her physical features stand out or if they are in the middling range as compared to most gymnasts.

The height of an average Olympic gymnast ranges from 4′ 9″ to 5′ 4″, which is 145 cm to 163 cm. Wong is 5’1”, which is approximately 155 cm. She does fit into the social construct with respect to height, but is still a little on the shorter end. Although her vault in the gymnastics domain was mighty enough, an average Olympic gymnast weighs between 45 kg and 55 kg, which is 99 lbs to 121 lbs. As per records, Wong weighs 52 kg, which is 114.5 lbs. The gymnastics star’s weight aligns well with the average weight of an Olympian gymnast.

Leanne Wong has a long way to go, and she is just getting started. She has age on her side as she did start the sport at a fairly nascent age, giving her an edge over her competitors.Olympic gymnasts have been reported to start very young, on average, between 3 and 6 years old. Wong, like other Olympic gymnasts with an average age ranging from 16 to 22, is currently 20 years old and will be seen as an alternate in Team USA at the French capital. Glory for team USA?
