As per the recent X post by USA Gymnastics, Skye Blakely has bowed out of the Olympic Trials. The post informs that the 2022 and 2023 world team champion suffered a right Achilles tendon injury on Wednesday, a day before the competition began. This happened while she was undergoing her podium training, which resulted in her being retired hurt from the Trials.

 

While the tweet by the national body has conveyed that Blakely’s recovery is underway, how long can it potentially take? Well, as per PennMedicine, it is possible that any normal Achilles injury may take at least two to three months for the pain to go away. But, this depends on the severity of the injuries. Thus, there might be a possibility that this injury becomes the hitch in Blakely’s Paris Olympic dreams. However, this is only an estimate.

A no Skye Blakely US Olympic team ‘might’ be a big loss

Finishing second to Simone Biles at the Xfinity US Gymnastics Championships recently, Skye Blakely exhibited herself as a gymnastics prodigy. Moreover, she showcased her versatility with an all-around and vault silver, followed by an uneven bars and balance beam bronze. This was a great comeback after she had slipped to a fifth all-around spot at the 2024 Core Hydration Classic, where she also added another vault silver to her record. Not just this, she took home gold in balance beam at the 2024 Winter Cup, whilst also clinching an all-around silver.

At the international championships too, Blakely was coming off major wins in the past 2 seasons. In 2023, the World Championships in Belgium, Blakely was part of the team that finished first on the podium. Similarly, at the previous meet of the same event in Liverpool, in 2022, she grabbed a balance beam 5th and a world team title.
