Jonathan Owens' surprise encounter—how do you think it will impact Simone Biles' performance tonight?

Simone Biles is back in action, and the excitement is off the charts as she goes for her second gold at the Paris Olympics. It’s her grand return to the Olympic all-around competition since her 2016 Rio triumph, and fans are buzzing with anticipation after the “Twisties” kept her out of the Tokyo finals three years ago. Picture this: over 20,000 fans swarming the Boulevard de Bercy, eager to snag their seats in the Accor Arena. And who’s among them? None other than her biggest cheerleader, Jonathan Owens.

You’d think Owens, now the Chicago Bears safety, would strut in like a VIP. Nope! He’s blending right in with the crowd, rocking casual black shorts, a matching T-shirt, and a red and black sling bag—probably stashing his trusty pen and paper for jotting down scores. Our EssentiallySports on-the-ground correspondent, Shreya Verma, spotted the St. Louis native, who’s making it big in the NFL with the Chicago Bears, casually strolling through the gates like any other fan.

Before the big day, Simone and Jonathan soaked up the City of Love, hitting all the iconic spots. They marveled at the Mona Lisa in the Louvre, with Jonathan adding his own hilarious twist by photoshopping a picture of Simone doing a full split among the masterpieces. Talk about taking the “hang it in the Louvre” meme to new heights!

Jonathan Owens: Simone Biles’ ultimate cheerleader!

To be at the Paris Olympics, Jonathan Owens skipped the crucial opening days of NFL training camp for his beloved wife’s big event, thanks to special permission from the Chicago Bears. When the gymnast and the NFL safety met in 2020 through the Raya app, Owens fell head over heels for Simone and has been her biggest cheerleader ever since. A hiccup did happen when Jonathan faced heat from fans for stating on the “Pivot” podcast that he initially had no clue who Simone was. But as time passed, and after he apologized to the community stating his intent, the controversy sidelined.

What reaffirmed his support again was through the Netflix series “Simone Biles Rising,” which highlights his solid support during her Tokyo Olympics struggles. After fans witnessed him being present for all her meets this year, he’s become a fan favorite yet again!

One of his sweetest gestures? Following in Biles’ parents’ footsteps by jotting down her scores during competitions. At the U.S. Championships, U.S. Olympic Trials, and even at the Paris Olympics team finals, Jonathan could be seen with a pen and paper, diligently recording Simone’s scores all night. And for the All-Around finals, he’s got a special touch: a Mona Lisa pen from the Louvre gift shop. He even showed off this pen on his Instagram stories on August 1, given to him by Jasmine Baker, who wrote, “@jowens new pen for the notes tonight… Mona Lisa about to witness the GOAT.”

After Simone clinched her 8th Olympic medal with Team USA, Jonathan shared a heartwarming post with her gold medal around his neck, writing, “Witnessing history every time you step on the mat 😍🔥 Congrats baby on becoming the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history!!!! Just wow!!!! 8 of them!!!!! So thankful I was there to see it ❤️🤍💙” Pondering on all this wholesomeness, what are your thoughts on Jonathan’s sweet gestures toward Simone at the Paris Olympics?
