Flavor Flav standing up for Jordan Chiles—Is this the support athletes need more of?

Flavor Flav never seems to shy away from making bold, generous gestures to uplift athletes, does he? His support is as unwavering as his iconic clocks are big. From championing Jordan Chiles during her medal controversy to now defending her against a spiteful online troll, Flav’s got her back once again!

The 65-year-old hype man made a heartfelt gesture by gifting Jordan Chiles a one-of-a-kind iconic clock necklace after her medal was taken away. “I’m quite sure that for Jordan Chiles, and any other athlete that ever went through that…how devastating the feeling can be.” Flavor Flav, always the man with a grand gesture, took to his X handle to make a heartfelt promise. He vowed to create a custom bronze-studded version of his iconic clock necklace for Jordan Chiles.

Flavor Flav’s latest move had the best of intentions. Collaborating with his clockmaker, Kellz, Flav wasn’t aiming to replace her Olympic medal but rather to celebrate her achievements and show her how much her talent and spirit are valued. It was his way of lifting her up, no matter the circumstances. But, as often happens in the age of social media, not everyone was on board with Flav’s heartfelt gesture. A swarm of trolls quickly descended, casting doubt on his sincerity.

In an Instagram comment, Flav fired back, “Ain’t nothing ever gonna replace an Olympic medal,,, it’s just a gesture to let her know we all support her and gots her back. And I ain’t done yet. Seems like ya don’t do enough nice thinks for others. Damn. STOP TRYING TO SPREAD HATE AND NEGATIVITY WHEN WE TRYING TO SPREAD LOVE AND UNITY.” And guess what? He wasn’t flying solo in this crusade!

As Flavor Flav stands firm, many appreciate his heartfelt gestures and stood firm with him while defending his intentions, with some commenting on the hateful post: “He tryna do sum thoughtful and y’all invalidating the gift and the point of the gift maybe she actually really liked the gift.”

While the other user commented on Flav’s tweet to appreciate him, “I don’t see them stepping up to do anything for the athletes. You keep doing what you do. I think it’s great that someone is stepping up and standing up for these athletes. Thank you!” Reflecting on this moment, it’s clear that Jordan Chiles isn’t navigating this storm alone, especially when another new heartbreak moment arises.

What’s new in the medal controversy surrounding Jordan Chiles?

Jordan Chiles’ moment of glory at the Paris 2024 Olympics took a sudden turn. The American gymnast’s joy over her first individual medal was cut short when the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decided her bronze medal for the floor exercise should actually go to Romania’s Ana Barbosu. The ruling came after a last-minute appeal from the U.S. team was deemed invalid—by a mere four seconds. Just days ago, on August 14, Jordan broke her silence, saying, “I have no words. This decision feels unjust and comes as a significant blow, not just to me, but to everyone who has championed my journey.” But the blows keep continuing for the American.

Ana Barbosu shared, “I did not expect the medal to be so heavy, but I would wear it day and night if this is what it takes to have it.”
