Is Simone Biles' tour the perfect way for Olympians to unwind, or just another pressure-filled event?

Simone Biles and Co. have a packed schedule for the coming week, with five Gold Over America Tour shows in the next six days. However, despite four shows remaining before the Olympian arrives in Kansas, Biles opened up about the significance of the tour to KCTV, a Kansas news outlet. During her interview, she explained why the tour is the perfect detour for everyone involved.

The 32-city tour is a unique mix of music and gymnastics that presents fans with a side of their favorite gymnasts they’ve never seen. Besides the defending all-around world champion, the GOAT also showcases the Olympic journey of gymnasts such as Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles. “Other than that, it’s just an Olympic celebration across America,” said Biles.

Yet for the Olympic medalists, that’s all they need to unwind and take the pressure off. So, Simone Biles believes that every competitive gymnast who is part of the show needs the tour. “We all deserve it because every time we compete, we’re always thinking about; What’s next? What’s next?…” the eleven-time Olympic champion told KCTV5.

As competitive gymnasts, Biles and her fellow Olympians constantly worry about the next contest. Even after doing well in one event, they barely get time to acknowledge the win before moving on to the next one. It was this constant cycle of compete, practice, rise and repeat that turned disastrous for Biles at Tokyo 2020. Despite being in peak physical condition, she couldn’t perform.

“But the success that we had in Paris. It’s like, ‘No, let’s celebrate this.’ Let’s celebrate our success for once and have fun doing it,” Simone Biles added. The most decorated Gymnast in history also hopes that the show inspires the fans who come to watch the show. “Most of the time when they see me compete, it’s Simone Biles. But I want them to get to know Simone,” added the gymnast.

There’s little doubt that Biles is at the forefront of Gold Over America (even the acronym references Biles’ nickname: GOAT). Yet she couldn’t emphasize enough how the show celebrates every gymnast on stage. Those words rang true when the group visited Boston.

The Gold Over America Tour performed for a sold-out crowd in Boston on October 6 and 7. However, besides fans filling out the stadium, the City of Boston had a surprise for one of its own. Boston, Massachusetts, native Frederick Richard has been touring across America. So when he arrived, Stoughton High School recognized their Class of 2022 alumnus.

The Paris Olympics bronze medalist also received the keys to the city and a championship belt. “Have yourself a day, @frederickflips!” posted the official USA Gymnastics Instagram page. They also posted the highlights from the event where the 20-year-old posed for a photo with the key and belt. “Had an amazing day back home,” responded the elated Olympian.

While more than halfway through their tour, Simone Biles and Co. will reach the final leg of the 2024 edition of GOAT by the time they reach Kansas. However, those willing to see the gymnast perform without the pressure of earning medals still have the opportunity to pick up tickets.
