Her enduring friendship with Holly Rowe, a cancer survivor and esteemed sports telecaster for the ESPN network, has been evident throughout. Recently, Rowe expressed her deep gratitude and support for Clarke as she began a new journey in life.

Recently, Kathy shared a post on X, which carried a reel featuring Holly in it. In the video, Holly expressed her deep admiration for Kathy, reminiscing about how she once looked up to her as a young girl aspiring to be a gymnast. Now, as an accomplished broadcaster herself, Holly acknowledged Kathy’s influential role in her life and career, describing her as one of the best in the business. She praised Kathy for her unwavering support for women’s sports and gymnastics, emphasizing her class and advocacy.

However, accompanying the reel was a caption filled with emotion. It reads, “Oh, my heart, Holly Rowe! You literally brought me to tears! I love you to the moon and back,” Through both the heartfelt video and caption, a genuine bond of admiration and gratitude between Kathy and Holly shines brightly. Yet, amidst this beautiful moment, it’s worth reflecting on Kathy’s journey from childhood to this point, illustrating the depth of her impact on those around her.

A hearken back at Kathy Johnson’s embellishments

Starting gymnastics at the age of twelve, Johnson’s rise was meteoric. Within four years, she transformed from a beginner to an elite competitor, placing 42nd at the prestigious 1975 AAU National Championships. Her true dominance began in 1977. She conquered the American Cup, soared to an all-around silver medal at the NHK Cup in Japan, and then secured a stunning gold in floor exercise and another silver in the all-around at the US Nationals.

Apart from all this, she is also an advocate for young athletes as well. Johnson is actively engaged in initiatives enhancing conditions for gymnasts and elite athletes. She openly shares her battle with bulimia and gymnastics’ journey through public speaking and lectures. Additionally, she serves on various committees and boards, including the Advisory Committee for Justice for Athletes, the National Athletic Advisory Board for Athletes for a Better World, and as an Olympic Athlete Ambassador for the Foundation for Global Sports Development. However, as she announced her retirement, it will be interesting to watch her new move.
