The fight is on for a place at the coveted U.S National Gymnastics Team at Winter Cup 2024 inside Kentucky International Convention Center. But for Yul Moldauer it’s more of a preparation for the Paris Olympics with a seat on the national team almost guaranteed for him, and he is going all in at the ongoing Winter Cup.

One of the favorites for the P, the 27-year-old is starting the Olympic year on a high note, Yul was sensational in the first rotation of the event. He performed on Parallel bars first and led the points table with a flawless landing as the third rotation concluded.

Yul Moldauer leads Winter Cup 2024 rankings

Looking flawless like always, Yul Moldauer started with a sensational parallel bar routine in the first rotation to grab 15.000 points. In the 2nd rotation, he performed a Horizontal bar routine to add 13.200 points to his tally. The Olympic Medalist rose back with a commanding performance in the third rotation on the floor. Yul scored 14.400 to take his overall points tally to 42.600. He leads the competition with Fuzzy Benas at 2nd on 42.150 points.

Benas is a student at the University of Oklahoma and his best score in the three rotations came in Vault, where he racked up 14.650. But it was Yul who stole the spotlight in Parallel Bars. The 27-year-old was perfect with his big swings and even more elegance sprinkled out of his landing. Although he wasn’t at his best on the horizontal bars, Yul made a good return to the top of the rankings in the next rotation, with 14.400 on the floor. Last year, the World Medalist had secured similar points in the horizontal bars and floor exercise and later won the men’s all-around title.

Yul earned a total of 85.342 points to hold off Fred Richard at 84.602 points in last year’s Winter Cup. He had started the event with 13.500 on the horizontal bar and later posted 14.400 on the floor exercise, exactly similar to this year’s. The Tokyo Olympian later posted 13.357 on a pommel horse, 14.14r kn still rings, and 14.250 on vault. With 3 rotations left, Yul will be itching to cap off his season-opening campaign with a victory. So will the whole of America be looking up to him at the Paris Olympics later?
